Women's Basketball Topples Wagner

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team cruised to a 70-36 victory over visiting Wagner on Thursday night at McGonigle Hall. The win lifts the Owls to 2-1 overall, while the Seahawks fall to 0-3.

KEYS TO THE GAME
> Temple's defense shined, allowing just seven Wagner points in each of the first two quarters.
> Offensively, the Owls shot 44.3% from the field, holding the Seahawks to just 30.8%.
> Eight different players scored for Temple, led by 24 points from senior Tanaya Atkinson and 18 from freshman Desiree Oliver.
> The Owls recorded 14 steals, forcing 28 turnovers from Wagner.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Atkinson finished the game with her third-straight double-double, pulling down 10 boards, while adding a team-high five steals.
> Oliver got her 18 points while shooting 7-for-11 from the field and draining three from beyond-the-arc.
> Freshman Emani Mayo had seven points with four assists.
> Grad student Mykia Jones had six points and a team-high five assists.
> Freshman Mia Davis was quiet on the offensive end, but pulled down eight rebounds.
> Freshman Breanna Perry notched six points, while junior Deja Reynolds had five to round out the scoring.

GAME NOTES
> Atkinson's double-double was the 17th of her career.
> The 28 opponent turnovers were the most the Owls have forced since 33 in a five overtime game at Memphis during the 2015-16 season.
> In a regulation game, the 28 were the most since the 2014-15 season.

FIRST QUARTER
> The Owls shot 56.3% (9-16) from the field getting off to a hot start.
> Temple took control right off the bat, scoring the first seven points and going on an 18-2 run.
> The Seahawks closed the quarter with a 5-3 surge, but the Owls led 21-7 after one.

SECOND QUARTER
> Temple outscored Wagner 18-7 in the frame, to go up by 25.
> Atkinson had six points in the quarter, while Jones added four.

THIRD QUARTER
> Temple's lead increased to as many as 29 points.
> Oliver began to heat up, with five points during the quarter,

FOURTH QUARTER
> The Owls finished out the buzzer-to-buzzer victory by outscoring Wagner 17-10 in the fourth.
> Oliver scored seven points in the final frame, while Reynolds and Atkinson each added five.

> The Owls will take their first road trip of the season this weekend.
