Women's Rowing Signs Eight During Early Period

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple rowing team has signed eight new Owls to national letters of intent during the early signing period. Temple will welcome: Nadia Bangura (Washington, D.C.), Anna Goodwin (Wallingford, Pa.), Morgan Krohn (Grosse Ile, Mich.), Kate McCulloch (Wayne, Pa.), Lily Ludgate (Somers Point, N.J.), Paige Perchinsky (Severna Park, Md.), Meghan Smith (Delmar, N.Y.), and Emma Spaeth (Wynnewood, Pa.).

> Most recently, Bangura recorded a second place finish in the Junior Women's 20 minute row at the 2017 Mid Atlantic Erg Sprints with a PR of 1:57.6.
> She led her team to a 6th place finish in the 2016 SRAA National Championships in the Junior Girls 8 , rowing in the five seat.
> Bangura intends to major in Biology at Temple.

> A 5-10 rower from Wallingford, Pa., she competes for Newport and attends Strath Haven.
> This season, she's already finished first in the varsity four at both the Braxton Memorial Regatta and the Head of the Christina.
> Goodwin also competed in the four that finished ninth overall at the Head of the Charles.
> A National Honor Society member, she intends to major in Early Childhood Education.

"I was drawn to Temple by the feeling I got when I stepped on campus. There were many things I absolutely loved about the campus: the coaches, the team, and the university as a whole, but the feeling I experienced when I was there really helped me with my decision. As soon as I got to campus, I immediately felt like I was home."
> A 6-0 rower from Grosse Ile, Mich., she competes and attends Grosse Ile High School.
> In her most recent season, she finished second at the Wy-Hi Regatta and third at the WOSS Regatta, racing in the varsity four.
> Krohn has received four varsity letters for rowing.
> She intends to major in Kinesiology.

"The women's rowing team as well as my family influenced me to come to Temple. This team is one of a kind and I am very lucky to be a part of it. They want you to be there and are supportive of you. They captivated me and inspired me. I want to thrive and go fast in an amazing and growing environment and Temple is where it's at. My family is my biggest support system. Being only an hour away, I am guaranteed that I will see their faces when I get off the water for most of the races. Without their motivation, encouragement, support and guidance, I don't think I would've gotten very far without them."

> Ludgate has rowed since her freshman year of high school and also played basketball.
> A member of the Latin Club at her high school, she intends to major in Kinesiology or Chemistry.

> A team captain, McCulloch earned her team's "Hammer" award for the fastest 2l erg time.
> She qualified to scholastic nationals in 2017 with her varsity four boat and previously won a silvder medal at the Philadelphia City Championships.
> A distinguised honor roll member, she plans to major in Civil Engineering.

"When I came on my official visit I instantly clicked with the other women on the team. I came to Temple on a very last minute visit, and I knew the very first night that I wanted to spend my next four years here. The opportunities for me are endless here especially within the well-known art school and business school that I was immediately drawn too. I felt comfortable enough as soon as I stepped on campus while still feeling like I can take huge strides and grow. I knew Temple U. was home for me and I cannot put into words how grateful I am for the opportunity to go to the college of my dreams!."
> A 5-10 rower from Severna Park, Md., she rows for Annapolis and attends Severn School.
> A team captain, Perchinsky raced with her crew at the Head of the Charles this fall.
> She is a two-time Youth Nationals qualifier.
> An honor roll student, Perchinsky is undecided on a major, but may pursue Education or Advertising.

> This fall, Smith raced in eights that finished third at the Head of the Housatonic and fourth at the Head of the Charles.
> She is a two-time Youth Nationals qualifier, most recently finishing in 15th place in 2017.
> An honor roll student, she intends to major in Kinesiology.

> Spaeth raced with her team at the annual Head of the Charles Regatta this fall, and also placed 11th at the Head of the Schuylkill in the varsity eight.
> The summer of her junior year, she traveled to Panama to represent her school at the HACIA Model UN Conference, and she has also traveled to Nicaragua on a service trip.
> A member of ModelUN and BuildOn at her high school, she plans to major in Environmental Science.
