11.9.17 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Four players scored in double figures to lead Temple men's basketball to a 70-60 charity exhibition win over Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) on Thursday night at the Liacouras Center. The Owls led by as many as 23 points in the second half, but the Rams battled down the stretch to make it a game.
Keys to the Game
> Sophomores Alani Moore II and Quinton Rose led the Owls with 13 points each, while Moore grabbed a game-best three steals.
> After a slow start, Temple rebounded with a huge run midway through the first half and was able to hold a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
> Jefferson kept it close down the stretch thanks to its free-throw shooting and efficiency from the field.
> Turnovers were a key factor, with the Owls committing just nine to the Rams' 23. Temple finished with a 23-13 lead in points off turnovers.
> Temple out-rebounded Jefferson 42-33, with a 20-6 edge on the offensive glass.
Individual Highlights
> Rose scored all 13 of his points in the first half, hitting 6-of-11 from the field.Â
> In addition to Moore's 13 points and three steals, he dished four assists and grabbed four rebounds.
> Senior Josh Brown scored 10 points in his first game action since early last season, playing 32 minutes for the Owls.
> Senior Obi Enechionyia hit 5-of-10 field goals and finished with 12 points, tying junior Ernest Aflakpui for team-high rebounding honors with six.
First Half
> The Owls struggled from the field early on, but used their strength on the boards to earn second-chance points.
> Down 15-10 at the 13:12 mark, Temple exploded for a 16-0 run to lead 26-15 with 9:41 remaining.Â
> The Owls hit four of their five first-half three-pointers in that stretch, including two by Moore.
> After Jefferson briefly cut the margin back to nine, the Owls responded with a 7-0 run and led by double digits for the rest of the game.
> Temple's largest lead of the half was 16, and the Owls took a 13-point, 37-24 advantage into the break.
Second Half
> Jefferson hung around for the first part of the half, and had the margin at 13 points with just over 12 minutes remaining.
> With a 12-2 run over a four-minute stretch, the Owls got their first 20-point lead with nine minutes left.
> The big lead was short-lived, as the Rams scored 11 unanswered points to cut the deficit to 12, 59-47 with five minutes left.
> Moore broke up the Jefferson run with his third trey of the contest, but the best the Owls could do was to trade buckets the rest of the way.Â
> The Rams took advantage of late fouls by Temple and finished 8-of-11 from the line in the game, all in the second half.Â
Next Up
