Women's Basketball Hosts SMU on Wednesday for Play4Kay Game

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team hosts SMU on Wednesday, tipping off at 7:00 p.m. at McGonigle Hall. The Owls (19-5, 9-2)Â and Mustangs (13-11, 4-7)Â will meet for the first time this season.

Wednesday's game has been designated Temple's "Play4Kay" cancer fundraiser. The event benefits the Kay Yow Cancer Fund as it supports research, provides grants, and drives inspiration in the fight against women's cancers. Temple will wear pink and grey uniforms for the game and all fans are encouraged to wear pink and donate either online or at the game.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
Temple is 19-5 overall with a 9-2 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Owls have won three-straight games and are tied for second in the American.
Four Temple players average in double-figures in scoring, led by senior guard Feyonda Fitzgerald's 16.7 points and 7.4 assists per contest, with the assist total ranking her sixth in the nation. Â Junior Alliya Butts averages 15.0 points per game with a team-best 48 steals, while classmate Donnaizha Fountain averages 14.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and has racked up 44 steals. Junior Tanaya Atkinson averages 12.6 points per game and leads the team with 8.1 rebounds.
Elsewhere, senior forward Ruth Sherrill averages 5.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, while junior Khadijah Berger averages 4.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Senior Safiya Martin (2.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg) tops the team with 28 total blocks.
Temple averages 70.9 points per game, giving up 58.9. Â The Owls shoot 39.8% from the field and 32.5% from three. Temple forces 16.6 turnovers per game and out-rebounds opponents by a +5.1 margin.
LAST TIME OUT
The Owls picked up a big road win on Saturday, topping East Carolina, 76-43. Â Temple held East Carolina to under 13 points in all four quarters and allowed them to shoot only 26.2% from the field.
Senior Feyonda Fitzgerald and juniors Donnaizha Fountain and Alliya Butts all stuffed the stat sheet for Temple. Fitzgerald finishes with game highs of 21 points and six assists, while Fountain rattled off her eighth-career double-double with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Butts had a fantastic all-around game, finishing with 12 points, a career-high six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

SMU is 13-11 overall and 4-7 in American Athletic Conference play. Â
The Mustangs are led by Alicia Froling, who averages a double-double of 14.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. McKenzie Adams is the only other SMU player in double figures in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game. Kiara Perry (7.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and Dai'ja Thomas (6.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg) round out the Mustang stat leaders.
SMU averages 59.1 points per game giving up 59.7. The Mustangs shoot 36.7% from the field and 26.4% from the three with a rebound margin of +4.7. SMU averages 6.1 blocks per game, but turn the ball over an average of 19.0 times per game.
LAST TIME OUT
SMU fell to No. 1 UConn, Â 83-41. The Mustangs trailed by only eight points after the first quarter but that was a close as they would come, as the Huskies won their 99th-straight game.

Sophomore Donnaizha Fountain led the Owls with 14 points, also adding seven rebounds and three steals, while senior Erica Covile had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Junior Feyonda Fitzgerald had eight points and a pair of assists, while sophomore Alliya Butts had six points, five steals, and four assists.Â
For SMU, Dai'ja Thomas was the only Mustang in double figures, scoring 12 points. Stephanie Collins and Gabrielle Wilkins scored six each, while Alicia Froling pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
