2.14.17 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA - Temple lacrosse will play its first-ever regular season game on Howarth Field at the new Temple Sports Complex when the Owls host Monmouth in their season opener at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Fans who attend the game will be given a Temple scarf, while supplies last.

The Owls opened their season with a thrilling, 13-11 win at longtime region rival Rutgers last Saturday, and now lead the all-time series 16-6 against the Scarlet Knights. Freshman Amber Lambeth did better than a hat trick with a game-leading four goals, which were the first four of her career. Senior Brenda McDermott was involved in almost half the Owls' goals, scoring a pair and assisting on four others. For her efforts, McDermott was named the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week.

Wednesday's game marks the first-ever meeting between Temple and Monmouth. The Hawks are also 1-0 so far after a narrow, 16-15 come-from-behind win at George Washington to open their season. Freshman Nicole Ceraso had four goals and four assists in her debut, while senior Olivia Higson (three goals) scored the game-winner with just four seconds remaining in regulation.

Temple lost 12 seniors to graduation after the 2016 season. This year's team features seven seniors, six juniors, three sophomores, two redshirt freshmen and 10 true freshmen. In 2016, the third-seeded Owls made their first-ever appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament since joining the league as an associate member in 2014, and then advanced to their first-ever BIG EAST Final after taking down second-seeded UConn 12-8 in the semifinals. Temple finished at 13-6 overall last season, with the 13 wins being the most since 2008.

Glassford recorded 78 draw controls in 2016 which were a BIG EAST-best and rank first all-time in a single season at Temple. With 4.11 draw controls per game, Glassford also ranked 18th among all players in NCAA Division I. Her 104 career draw controls already rank ninth all-time on the career list at Temple with almost a full season left to play.

Later this week, Temple will travel to nearby Princeton for a noon game on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Tigers were ranked 13th in the IWLCA Division I Preseason Coaches Poll.
