Lacrosse Heads to #13 Princeton on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - The first ranked opponent of the season awaits Temple lacrosse, as the Owls (2-0) travel to #13 Princeton (0-0) for a noon game on Saturday, Feb. 18. OwlsTV's Kevin Copp will have a live audio-only broadcast of the contest, available HERE.

The Owls came from three goals down with five minutes left in their most recent win over Monmouth on Feb. 15, getting the game-winning goal from senior Brenda McDermott with 12 seconds left before adding an insurance goal by senior Anna Frederick with three seconds to go.

Four Hat Tricks
Four players notched hat tricks for Temple in its 18-16 Monmouth win on Feb. 15, led by sophomore Amber Lambeth who tied her career goal, set one game earlier, with four goals. Senior Anna Frederick, senior Carly Demato and junior Nicole Barretta all scored three goals apiece. The Owls' four hat tricks were their most in five years. The last time four Temple players achieved the feat was in a 20-16 loss at Richmond on April 15, 2012.
Drawing on Glass
Senior Morgan Glassford led the BIG EAST in draw controls last season, ranking 18th in NCAA Division I with 4.11 draws per game, and she shows no signs of slowing down so far in the 2017 season. Glassford racked up a career-high 11 draw controls in the Owls' 18-16 win vs. Monmouth on Feb. 15, including three crucial draws that helped Temple come back from a three-goal deficit with five minutes remaining. Glassford has recorded 115 draws in her career, already ranking fourth all-time at Temple with nearly a full season left to play. She needs 19 more draw controls to tie for third on the all-time list, and 41 to tie for first.
Sophomore Sensation
In 2016, then-freshman Amber Lambeth played in just 10 games and her stat totals included one assist and one draw control. Her sophomore season is shaping up to be a breakout one, as Lambeth leads the team with eight goals after just two games. She scored a team-high four goals in each, leading the Owls to a 13-11 win at Rutgers and an 18-16 win vs. Monmouth.Â
Keeping it in the Family
The 2017 season marks the fifth in a row in which Temple lacrosse has had at least one set of sisters. From 2013-16, the Owls had two sets of identical twins in Nicole and Megan Tiernan along with Avery and Kari Longstaff. While all four have now graduated, Temple has a new pair of sisters in senior Anna Frederick and freshman Lizzie Frederick. The two hail from Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Cape Henlopen High School where they played with current redshirt freshman Taylor Gooch. Frequently seen taking photos on the sidelines of Temple lacrosse games is Dave "Fredman" Frederick, the grandfather of Anna and Lizzie who played football for Temple in the late 1960s.
Scouting Princeton
The Princeton Tigers, ranked 13th in the IWLCA Preseason Coaches Poll, are coming off their 12th Ivy League title and 24th NCAA appearance in 2016. Among four top scorers who return from a year ago are All-America Olivia Hompe who scored 47 goals and added 12 assists last year. The 2016 IWLCA Division I Goalkeeper of the Year Ellie DeGarmo is back for her senior season after recording a .536 save percentage and an 8.95 goals against average last year. Also returning on defense is preseason All-America selection and senior Amanda Leavell.Â
Temple vs. Princeton
The Tigers lead 20-9 in the all-time series against Temple, most recently winning 14-13 in Philadelphia in 2012. The two teams first met in 1980, and played each season from 1991-2010.Â
Success Off the Field
Temple lacrosse earns numerous academic honors each year, and racked them up again for the 2015-16 season. For a second year in a row, the Owls were  recognized with 2015-16 BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award for lacrosse for having the highest collective grade-point average in the sport.

Temple was also named an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for a 10th year in a row. Thirty members of the team earned All-BIG EAST Academic Team recognition, and 11 of those were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. The Owls' 11 recipients of that honor were the most of any of the 96 schools represented.
As a team, Temple lacrosse combined for a 3.51 GPA last year to tie for department-high honors along with the women's soccer team.
