Gymnastics Heads Down Broad Street for Pink Invitational Quad Meet

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's gymnastics will participate in the Pink Invitational at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. The Owls will face off in a quad meet against #29 University of Maryland, West Chester University and Southern Connecticut State University. Currently holding the top five team scores in program history, this year's Temple squad looks to have another stellar weekend of competition.

During a road meet at the University of  New Hampshire this past weekend, the Owls were able to break their school record for a third time this season. Posting the program's first ever team score above a 194 with a final mark of 194.35, the Owls wrote themselves into the record books once again.
The vault squad, who is currently ranked first in the conference with a RQS score of 48.605, was led by Sophomore Aya Mahgoub who picked up her career-high and event title with a score of 9.85. Mahgoub is only the third Owl of all time to post a score of 9.85 on vault and first since 2010. Yasmin Eubanks was also able to post a solid score of a 9.775 that was followed closely by Daisy Todd and Jaylene Everett's pair of 9.7 marks.

Individually, Todd continued her success in the all-around posting a score of 38.775. Todd ranks third in the all-around and is ranked seventh in the North East region. The freshman is also ranked first in the conference on bars and fourth regionally with a RQS score of 9.795. Sahara Gipson is currently ranked first on vault in the conference and 10th in the region with a RQS score of 9.770.

The Owls now hold a team RQS score of 193.350 and rank first in the conference. The team also leads the ECAC in three individual events. The Owls vault team leads with an RQS score of 48.605, the bar team leads with a RQS score of 48.355 and the beam team leads with a RQS score of 48.210.

#29 Maryland
The Maryland Terrapins enter the weekend after a quad meet against #9 Kentucky, University of Pennsylvania, and William and Mary. Friday's meet will be the first of two road meets this weekend. The team has a season-high score of 195.625 for 2017 and a team RQS score of 194.895. They currently rank fifth in the South East region behind West Virginia, George Washington, Georgia, and Florida.

Senior Emily Brauckmuller is a Terp to look out for as she is currently placed seventh in the South East region notching a RQS score of 9.85 on floor. Also, Freshman Alecia Farina is one to keep an eye on as she is ranked eighth regionally with a RQS score of 9.83 on bars. Brauckmuller and Farina have helped lead a team that has avoided counting a fall in all meets through the month on February.
The Owls last met the Terrapins at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh back in 2013 where Maryland posted a score of 195.975. Overall, Maryland leads the all-time series against Temple 34-9.

West Chester
The West Chester Golden Rams will head to Philadelphia after falling to Cornell University 194.5-192.025 this past weekend. The Golden Rams currently hold a season-high team score of 194.4 for 2017. The Gold Rams hold a team RQS score of 191.760 and rank second in the ECAC-2.

Majesta Valentine holds the highest individual ranking for the Golden Rams, sitting first in the all-around within the North East Region with a RQS score of 39.075. Valentine is coming off a winning weekend herself, gaining three individual event titles. She is currently tied for fourth on the floor in the North East Region.

In their last meeting in 2017, the Owls topped the Golden Rams at the Ken Anderson Invitational. Overall, the Owls lead the all-time series 39-9.

Southern Connecticut
The Southern Connecticut State University Owls will round out the competition on Friday after hosting Yale, RIC, and Springfield. Last weekend, the Owls posted a team score of 188.05 during their quad meet. The Owls now rank third in the ECAC-2 conference.

Junior  Alexandra Avendano has been a top performer for the SCSU Owls in 2017.She logged three top-eight finishes as the Owls finished second at meet against Brown, Rhode Island College and URI. She also has earned SCSU Female Athlete of the Week Award two times this season.

Southern Connecticut and Temple last met for a meet at Brown in 2016 where the SCSU Owls topped the Temple Owls. In the all-time series, Temple leads 10-4.
