3.15.17 | Women's Cross Country, Women's Track and Field

PHILADELPHIA – Former member of Temple women's cross country/track and field Blanca Fernandez has been selected to the Spanish national team for competition in next week's IAAF World Cross Country Championships. The 2017 World Championships will take place on Sunday, March 26 in Kampala, Uganda.

Fernandez will be one of 24 athletes to compete for Spain next week. The Leon, Spain native will run in the mixed relay to kick off the five events.

At Temple, Fernandez was named Temple Owls Best Female Athletic Performer of the Year for the 2015-16 season. During the fall of 2015, she marked history as the first-ever women's cross country conference champion in Temple history.  In her final outdoor season with the Owls, the two-time American Athletic Conference champion in the 1500 and 5000-meter races set a school record in the 5000 and earned All-Conference honors. Fernandez was an NCAA East Regional qualifier that year and was able to toe the line at the NCAA Championships, earning Second-Team All-America honors for her efforts.
