RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Gary McCabe (72-73) shot a three-over 145 to lead Temple and tie for 42nd overall at the Wolfpack Spring Open Friday in the opening day of the two-day, three-round tournament held at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State. As a team, the Owls finished the first day tied for 14^th place among the highly-competitive 16-team field.

Sophomore Trey Wren, who had led the Owls in three of their four spring tournaments, shot consecutive rounds of 74 to place second for the Cherry and White and tie for 55^th with a six-over 148. Redshirt sophomore John Barone(76-73) was next for Temple and tied for 65th with a 149. Freshman Sam Soeth (74-79, 153) and junior Mark Farley (78-78. 156) rounded out the TU quintet in 81^st and 85^th place, respectively.

Host North Carolina State led the field with a 19-under 543. The Wolfpack are two shots ahead of Clemson (545). UNC-Greensboro's Jonathan Brightwell leads the 90-man field with a 12-under 130.

Play concludes with the final round Saturday.
