4.21.17 | Men's Golf

PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Temple is set to tee-off at the American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship this Sunday, April 23.  The three-day, 54-hole championship, hosted by The American and USF, will again be held at Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Play on the par-71, 7,125-yard Copperhead Course will begin at 8 a.m. ET with 18 holes each of the three days. An awards presentation will take place following the final round on Tuesday. Admission to the event is free and open to the public, and live scoring can be found through www.Golfstat.com or on the Golfstat mobile applications.

The American Digital Network (ADN) will have live coverage of the 18th hole during the final round of the championship beginning at Noon ET on Tuesday. Once competition is complete, the ADN will carry the awards ceremony, as well as player and coaches interviews.

Tenth-year head coach Brian Quinn brings a young, but talented, lineup to the championship. Sophomore Trey Wren leads the Owls with a four Top 20 finishes and a 73.8 stroke average over 30 rounds.  Redshirt sophomore John Barone is the only other Temple golfer to compete in every round this year and owns a 74.8 stroke average.  Sophomore Sam Soeth (76.1 spg,), redshirt freshman Erik Reisner (76.5) and sophomore Gary McCabe (76.6) round out the Cherry and White quintet.

The Owls will compete against eight other American teams, three of which are ranked among the nation's Top 60 according to the latest Golfstat rankings announced on April 19. UCF (No. 45) is the league's highest-rated team followed by Houston (No. 54) and USF (No. 56).

UConn has three wins this year to lead the conference while UCF has two wins. Four American teams (Cincinnati, East Carolina, USF and Temple) have one win apiece.

Individually, ECU junior Tim Conover leads The American with two wins. Bearcats sophomore Austin Squires is tops in the league with four Top 5 finishes this season. Michael Perras (Houston) leads the field with six Top 20 finishes.
