PHILADELPHIA - For her successes both on and off the competition floor, Temple gymnastics sophomore Breahna Wiczkowski has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area At-Large Team. Wiczkowski is one of 11 student-athletes selected to the team, which is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Joining Wiczkowski from Temple is sophomore fencer Quinn Duwelius, a psychology major from Gales Ferry, Conn.

Majoring in social work, Wiczkowski has an outstanding 3.76 grade-point average and will be named to Temple's President's Honor Roll for 2016-17. She was a 2017 Team Co-Captain and a member of Temple ROTC.

Wiczkowski, a native of Litiz, Pa., competed in all 13 meets for the 2017 season as a bar and beam specialist. She posted Temple women's gymnastics first-ever 9.925 on beam, missing the program record by just .025. Wiczkowski earned ECAC Specialist of the Week and Temple Owls Athlete of the Week honors for the week of March 7 following her record-setting beam performance and earned three individual event titles on beam in her sophomore season. Wiczkowski posted a career high 9.725 on bars and posted a 100% hit rate for her work on the event in the 2017 season. The sophomore is currently tied for the most individual beam scores of 9.8 or higher in program history with four and she was a key competitor that helped the Owls set five new program records for overall team score in the 2017 season.

West Chester University senior gymnast Majesta Valentine was named the 2016-17 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's At-Large Performer of the Year. A three-time NCAA Atlantic Regional qualifier in the all-around, Valentine won the 2017 USA Gymnastics National Championship in the all-around and earned All-America status in the all-around, vault, uneven bars and balance beam.

An exercise science major at West Chester, Valentine earned top-two finishes in the floor exercise, all-around and uneven bars at the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Championship. At the conclusion of the event, Valentine was also named 2017 ECAC Division II Athlete of the Year, the second consecutive year the senior has claimed the honor.

Valentine, Duwelius and Wiczkowski are joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area At-Large Team by Haverford College's Amira Abujbara, Villanova University's Dominique Clark, Drexel University's Haley Hughes, Bek Lucas from Neumann University, and Kyra Levi, Erin Lo, Marie Stephan and Kelly Tan from the University of Pennsylvania.
