Temple Golf Places Ninth at The American Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Sophomore Trey Wren lead Temple Golf and tied for 15th overall with an eight-over 221 at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship. The Owls placed ninth overall at the championship which was held at Innisbrook Golf Resort's par-71, 7,125-yard Copperhead Course.

Wren carded a three-over 74 on the final round of play Tuesday, tying redshirt freshman Erik Reisner for the Owls best round of the day.  Reisner (76-81-74, 231) and sophomore Sam Soeth (78-76-77, 231) tied for 41st place overall with sophomore Gary McCabe (74-77-79, 230) finishing one stroke better and tied for 37th place.   Redshirt sophomore John Barone (74-74-84, 232) rounded out the Owls quintet and was tied for 43rd.  

Houston's Michael Perras was the individual champion, winning a one-hole playoff over USF's Cristian DeMarco.  Both finished the 54-hole tournament at one-under 222.

USF (857) won the team title by 15 strokes over runner-ups Cincinnati (872) and Houston (872).  UCF (877) was fourth followed by Memphis (881). UConn (884), SMU (884), East Carolina (898) and Temple (902).
