Men's Soccer Set to Host Rider on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer will host Rider for its first home match of the season on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m., following the Temple women's soccer match against Mt. St. Mary's. The Owls look for a win after its tie with Delaware on Aug. 31.

Scouting the Owls
> Following three road games within a week's time, the Owls will host a match at the Temple Sports Complex for its fourth game of the season.
> Temple will head back on the road for its next two matches against St. John's and Fairfield before its second home game on Sept. 19 against Duquesne.
> Seniors Mark Grasela and Joonas Jokinen are the Owls' two lone goal scorers of 2017. Grasela scored his first goal of his career on Aug. 29 at Villanova while Jokinen scored both at SJU and Delaware.
> Temple closed out 2016 with a record of 10-6-2, and 2-3-2 in the American Athletic Conference. The Owls fell to USF 1-0 in the last match of the season.
> In the American's Coaches' preseason poll, Jokinen snagged a spot on the preseason All-Conference team.
> Jokinen is Temple's leading returning scorer, with three goals and six assists last season.
> At starting goalkeeper, fifth-year Alex Cagle tallied 52 saves last season logging a save percentage of .776. Cagle was last year's Soccer Six goals against average leader with an average of .82.
> The Owls are led by co-captains Cagle, Grasela, senior Brendon Creed, and junior Hermann Doerner.

> Rider is 1-1 in 2017 after losing in its season opener at Lehigh 2-3, and then topping Seton Hall 2-1.
> The Broncs return six starters from their second-straight MAAC Championship squad, including their top three goal scorers from a year ago in Elliott Otmani (6 goals, 8 assists), Jose Aguinaga (5 goals, 9 assists) and Clement Bourret (8 goals, 2 assists).
> The Broncs' biggest loss from 2016 was 2017 Second Team All-American Christian Flath who became Rider's fifth All-American of all-time and the first since 1972.
> Rider will have to replace 2016 MAAC Co-Goalkeeper of the Year Ryan Baird and fellow All-MAAC honoree, defender Matt Fryc from the Broncs' defense. Adrien Huss (3 goals, 2 assists) was also lost to graduation from the Rider midfield.
