Men Tennis Brings Four Players to ITA Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - Temple's men's tennis team will continue its fall season Saturday, Sept. 30 at the ITA Invitational in Tulsa, Okla. Four player from the team were selected to play in the event including sophomore Juan Araoz, junior Alberto Caceres Casas, junior Uladzimir Dorash and senior Thomas Sevel.
Scouting the Owls
>Temple is coached by Steve Mauro who is in his 12th season at the helm of the program.
>Araoz is a transfer from Hampton University where he was their number one player. He will play in the pre-qualifier, four matches that will start on Saturday and continue on Sunday..
>Caceres Casas was a transfer from Armstrong and listed as No. 3 in the nation in Division II. He is also playing in the pre-qualifier.
>Also in the pre-qualifier is Dorash, a returning player who finished with a 15-12 record in singles play last year.
>Sevel is a returning senior who posted a 17-6 record in singles play last year. He made it to the qualifiers which will not occur until Monday.
About the ITA Invitational
>The Intercollegiate Tennis Association is set to hold its first national championship tournament of the 2017-18 season, as the nation's top Division I men's players gather in Tulsa to take part in the 2017 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships.
>Pre-qualifying matches are slated to begin on Saturday, Oct. 1, with qualifying matches starting on Oct. 3, and main draw contests getting underway on Oct. 6. The singles and doubles finals are scheduled for Oct. 10.
>This marks the 12th straight year that the University of Tulsa will serve as the official tournament host, and most of the action during the two-week event will take place on the courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

"It's one of the biggest tournaments of the year and were happy we got four guys into it," said Mauro. "The guys are really pumped up for it and last year we had a good showing and I expect we'll do the same this year."
"I'm playing good tennis right now and our coach is doing a really good job to put our players in the best position to succeed in the tournament," said Araoz.
"I want to give everything I have this weekend and support my teammates when they are playing their matches," said Caceres Casas.
"I hope to make it past pre-qualifiers" said Dorash. "This is a tournament filled with all the best players in the country and I hope to play my best tennis."
"I want to give everything that I have and represent Temple in the right way at the tournament," said Sevel.
