Volleyball Hosts BC for Cherry & White Challenge

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will host Boston College on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. to open the 2017 Sonesta Hotel Philadelphia Cherry and White Challenge. Originally scheduled to include four teams, the University of Miami pulled out of the tournament due to Hurricane Irma approaching Florida.

> Friday: Temple vs. Boston College - 5:30 p.m.
> Saturday: Boston College vs. Delaware - 11:00 a.m.

WHITE OUT!
> Temple will host a "White Out" during the match.
> Fans are encouraged to wear white to McGonigle Hall.
> Free t-shirts will be given to the first Temple fans through the door.

LAST TIME OUT
> Temple is coming off a 2-1 showing at the Albany Invitational.
> Junior Mia Heirakuji was named the Tournament MVP, leading Temple's defense with 3.89 digs per set.
> Redshirt Freshman Dana Westfield was named to the All-Tournament team, averaging 2.22 kills per set, hitting .357.
> Temple swept both St. John's and Albany, but fell to Colgate in the tournament.

THE OWLS
> Senior Izzy Rapacz leads the team with 2.89 kills per set, while Westfield and senior Irem Asci average 2.33 kills per frame.
> Senior Janine Simmons averages 1.71 kills per set, with a team-best 31 total blocks.
> Senior Kyra Coundourides averages 7.10 assists and 2.43 digs per set, with a team-high five aces.
> Heirakuji tops the Owls' defense with 3.52 digs per set, while senior Dara Peric adds 2.45 per frame.
> As a team, the Owls hit .224, holding opponents to a .168 attack.

THE EAGLES
> Boston College is 2-4 overall, most recently going 1-2 at their home tournament.
> The Eagles are led by Cat Balido, who averages 3.24 kills and 2.20 digs per set.
> Lynn Braakhuis (2.50 kills/set) and Clare Naughton (2.13 kills/set) also contribute to the Eagles' offense.
> Jane DeJarid is the team's top setter, averaging 6.00 assists per set, also adding 1.88 digs per frame.
> Jill Strockis tops the team on defense with 3.80 digs per set.
> Boston College hits .206 as a team, while opponents hit at a .209 clip.

THE SERIES
> Temple is 1-1 all-time against Boston College.
> The Owls played the Eagles twice in 1989, with each team grabbing a win.
