Women's Basketball to Induct Two into Ring of Honor on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple Basketball Ring of Honor will grow to include two more women's basketball players on Sunday, as Owl standouts Dora Lurie and Donna Kennedy will be inducted during Temple's game against #1 UConn.
DORA LURIE
> Lurie was Temple's star player between 1919 and 1922.
> She compiled an 85% field goal percentage, as the Owls went undefeated during her tenure.
> Lurie was the captain of Temple's team that posted 67 straight victories, including winning the 1922 Eastern Intercollegiate Championship.
> She played professional basketball with the Scott-Powell team in 1923-1926, touring the United States and Canada.
> Lurie was the first female athlete to become a byline sportswriter for the Philadelphia Inquirer where she covered women's and men's sports for 23 years.
> She was inducted into the Temple Athletics Hall of Fame in 1976.
DONNA KENNEDY
> Kennedy played four seasons of varsity basketball at Temple and was an outstanding all-around performer from 1979 to 1983.
> At the conclusion of her playing career, she stood as Temple's all-time leader in assists with 507, and also held the Temple record for assists in a season with 151 in 1979-80.
> She also finished as the ninth highest scorer in Temple history at the time, with 1,156 career points.
> During the 1980-81 season, she scored a career high 38 points against Dalhousie, which at the time was the second-best single game performance in Owls' history.
> Kennedy ranked fourth in Temple history in career steals with 220, averaging 2.1 steals per game.Â
> She was a part of Temple's first ever women's Philadelphia Big 5 Championship in 1983, while leading the Owls to a pair of WNIT appearances, including finishing fifth in 1982.
> Kennedy was inducted into the Philadelphia Big Five Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Temple Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.

> The Temple Basketball Ring of Honor was established in 2016.
>Â Aggie Stegmuller ('45) and Lynn Blaszczyk Petruzzelli ('83) also represent the women's basketball in the Ring of Honor.
