Gymnastics' Gipson and Oster Tabbed for ECAC Weekly Honors
1.24.18 | Women's Gymnastics
Danbury, Conn. – On Tuesday the Eastern College Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards for the week of competition ending Jan. 21. Senior Sahara Gipson snagged the Gymnast of the Week title while freshman Jordyn Oster earned the Coaches Choice award.
On Jan. 19 at UNC, Gipson garnered three solid scores for the Owls to contribute to their overall 194.375-team score. Her vault routine earned a season-high 9.7 to help Temple to a 48.625 at vault. She continued the evening hitting identical scores of 9.675 with her floor and beam routines.
Oster was sidelined for four weeks during preseason due to a fractured rib and was not able to train. When she was cleared to return to the mats shortly after Temple's winter break, she quickly pushed herself to get her routines back on track in order to be a true competitor. After the Owls lost a key contributor on beam and floor at the beginning of the season, Oster worked hard to earn and maintain a spot in both lineups. Last weekend against the Tar Heels, the freshman posted her third consecutive 9.725 on the balance beam and a strong 9.7 on floor. Both scores were good enough to count toward the team total as Oster played a vital role.
Temple women's gymnastics will now prepare for Sunday's home opener against SEMO, Ithaca, and Cornell set for a 1 p.m. start time.
