Men's Basketball Dominates in an 85-57 Takedown of UConn

PHILADELPHIA - An all-around team effort on both ends of the floor led to Temple men's basketball's biggest win of the season, an 85-57 takedown of UConn (11-10, 4-4) on Sunday night at the Liacouras Center. The Owls (11-10, 3-6) had four players score in double figures, led by 18 points from Shizz Alston, Jr. and 17 from Quinton Rose.

Keys to the Game
> The Owls got off to a strong start and only one had one brief let up in the first half, otherwise dominating the game throughout.
> Temple closed the first half on a 24-6 run in the final 13 minutes and led by as many as 16, before building its lead to over 20 for much of the second half and finishing strong for its largest lead of the game.
> Turnovers committed by Temple were just five, a season low, while the Owls forced 16 on UConn and finished with a 23-4 edge in points off turnovers.
> In addition to the season low turnovers, the Owls recorded a season-high 20 assists and hit 10 three-pointers while shooting 40 percent from long range.

Individual Highlights
> Alston hit 4-of-7 three-pointers and dished out four assists to go with his game-high 18 points.
> Ernest Aflakpui scored a season-high 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, finishing just one point shy of his career high.
> Hitting 5-of-6 field goals, Nate Pierre-Louis came off the bench for 12 points.
> Just one point shy of a double-double, Obi Enechionyia pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, scored nine points, and tied his career-high three assists. 

First Half
> Temple jumped out to a 7-0 lead and later led 14-9 before the Huskies picked up the pace.
> UConn used a 9-0 run to take an 18-14 lead at the 13-minute mark, but the Owls played lockdown defense the rest of the way.
> In the final 12 and a half minutes, the Owls outscored the Huskies 24-6, led by eight points from Alston.
> Temple led by its largest margin of 16 with a minute to go before UConn hit two free throws for the final points of the half, and the Owls took a 38-24 lead into the break.
> At halftime, the Owls held a 15-0 edge in points off turnovers after forcing 10 on UConn and committing just two miscues themselves.

Second Half
> The Owls led by double digits for the entire second half, with UConn never getting closer than 12, and only doing so in the opening minutes.
> With a 10-0 run ending near the 14-minutes mark, Temple increased its lead to 23 points, 53-30.
> The Huskies twice got the deficit back to 17, but the Owls again got it back over 20 points.
> In the final minute, Temple closed on a 6-0 run thanks to freshmen Justyn Hamilton and J.P. Moorman II to make the final tally the Owls' largest lead of the game, 28 points.
