Third Quarter Dooms Women's Basketball in Loss to #23 USF

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Temple women's basketball team fell 76-60 to #23 USF on the road on Sunday afternoon. The loss dips the Owls to 9-11, 1-6 in The American, while USF improves to 16-5, 6-2 in conference play.
KEYS TO THE GAME
> A huge third quarter for USF erased a one-point Temple halftime lead, as the Bulls opened the frame on a 19-3 run to put the game out of reach.
> Though Temple made 11 threes to USF's five, the Bulls out-shot Temple 40.9% to 34.4%, with a 36-16 advantage in points in the paint.
> The Bulls also out-rebounded the Owls 54-29, including a 19-6 lead on the offensive glass.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Tanaya Atkinson finished the game with 22 points, on her 22nd birthday, also adding seven rebounds and a team-best four assists.
> Graduate student Mykia Jones tied her career-best effort with 11 points and three assists.
> Freshman Mia Davis had 10 points with a team-high eight boards.
> Senior Khadijah Berger and freshman Emani Mayo each added six points in the loss.

> A hot start from Temple saw the Owls lead 8-0 and 11-3 on threes from Davis, Atkinson, and Mayo.
> USF countered with an 18-2 run, including scoring 12 unanswered to close the first quarter with a 21-13 advantage.
SECOND QUARTER
> After USF opened the quarter with a basket, Temple went on an 8-0 run to cut it to 23-21 with 6:50 to play.
> The Bulls pushed their advantage back to seven (28-21) with 3:40 to play.
> Temple responded with a 10-2 run, including eight straight to close the frame with a 31-30 lead.
THIRD QUARTER
> USF had a huge third quarter, outscoring Temple 31-14, the second most post the Owls have allowed in a frame this season.
> The Bulls were hot out of the gate, going on a 19-3 run to take a 49-34 lead midway through play.
> Temple got the lead down to 12 on a pair of Jones free throws, but USF closed the quarter on a 10-6 run to lead 61-45 after three.
FOURTH QUARTER
> USF opened the frame on a 13-2 run to push their lead to the largest in the game -- 27 points at 74-47.
> Temple closed the gap by ending the game on a 13-2 run of their own, setting the final to 76-60.

> Temple returns to Philadelphia for a day, before heading on the road again.
