Women's Basketball Looks to Snap Losing Streak at SMU

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team will look to snap a six game skid on Wednesday, as the Owls head to SMU. The game will tip off at 8:00 p.m. EST on ESPN3.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Temple is 9-11 overall, with a 1-6 record in American Athletic Conference play.
> Temple is led by senior Tanaya Atkinson, who averages team-best totals of 22.4 points and 9.6 rebounds, with 2.9 assists per game.
> Freshman Mia Davis is second on the team with 12.0 points and 8.4 rebounds per outing. 
> Rookie Emani Mayo averages 7.9 points per game to rank third.
> Freshman Desiree Oliver adds 7.7 points and 2.8 assists per game, recently making her first career start.
> Senior Khadijah Berger averages 4.4 points and 2.9 assists per game.
> As a team, Temple shoots 38.8% from the field and 30.3% from three.
> The Owls have slightly out-rebounded opponents, but have a negative turnover margin (-2.2).

> Temple fell 76-60 to #23 USF on the road on Sunday afternoon. 
> A huge third quarter for USF erased a one-point Temple halftime lead, as the Bulls opened the frame on a 19-3 run to put the game out of reach.
> The Bulls out-shot Temple 40.9% to 34.4%, and out-rebounded the Owls 54-29, including a 19-6 lead on the offensive glass.
> Tanaya Atkinson finished the game with 22 points, on her 22nd birthday, also adding seven rebounds and a team-best four assists.

> SMU enters the game with a 7-14 record, including 1-7 record in the American Athletic Conference.

> SMU has a pair of players averaging in double-figures, led by guard McKenzie Adams, who puts up 18.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
> Kiarra Perry adds 10.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per outing.
> Ariana Whitfield also aids the offense to the tune of 7.3 points per game.
> Dai'ja Thmas contributes 4.8 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game.
> Mikayla Reese leads SMU with 2.4 assists per game.
> As a team, SMU shoots 34.8% from the field and 28.6% from three.
> The Mustangs are out-rebounding opponents by an average of 3.9 boards per game.

> SMU couldn't hold on to a fourth quarter lead, falling 60-56 at Houston on Saturday.

> The Owls then forced a pair of turnovers and SMU missed three at the buzzer.
> Tanaya Atkinson notched her 10th double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
> Davis finished her afternoon with 10 points and five rebounds, while Jones tallied nine points with four rebounds.
> Khadijah Berger wrapped up the box score with a career-best eight assists. 

THE MATCH-UP
> Temple owns the all-time series against SMU, 6-2.
