Women's Rowing Announces 2018-19 Novice Roster

PHILADELPHIA -- After a grueling try-out process, the Temple women's rowing team has selected its novice squad for the 2018-19 season. school year. 

"The women that tried out for the novice team this year were deeper than ever. They really displayed their competitive spirits and showed their dedication to the opportunity to become a part of the team," noted Novice Coach Julia Rorer. "It got the staff really excited about the contributions that they could provide to the team. Seeing what these women completed during the two week tryout period, makes us really excited to see what they can add to the great group of women we already have on the team. I cannot wait to see what they can accomplish this year!"

Temple will open the fall racing season at the Navy Day Regatta on Saturday, October 13.

Meet the Owls' Novices
> Meghan Arters is a 5-0 coxswain from Garnet Valley, Pa., where she attended Garnet Valley High School. A freshman at Temple, Arters is a secondary education major.

> Chloe Borgesi is a 5-10 rower from Springfield, Pa., where she attended Springfield High School. A three-sport athlete in high school (cross country, indoor/outdoor track), she is a freshman biology major. 

> Lea Chisholm is a 5-11 rower from North Andover, Mass., where she attended North Andover High School. A junior environmental studies major, she is a Dean's list student.

> Lucy Cochran is a 5-8 rower from Charlotte, N.C., where she attended Myers Park High School. A freshman speech therapy major, she served as captain of her team at Charlotte Youth Rowing. Cochran has led crews to fourth and seventh at the Southeast Youth Rowing Regionals and second at the NC State Rowing Championships. An IB diploma earner, she was a member of the National Honor Society and National Science Honor Society.

> Shenna Grady is a 5-10 rower from West Chester, Pa., where she attended West Chester Rustin High School. A sophomore transfer from Chestnut Hill College, she was a goalie for the Griffins. A four-year letter winner in both lacrosse and swimming in high school, Grady is undeclared in the Fox School of Business.

> Ambria Horne is a 5-10 rower from Blue Bell, Pa., where she attended Wissahickon High School. A member the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society, she is a freshman recreational therapy major.

> Megan Llewellyn is a 5-9 rower from Conyngham, Pa., where she attended Hazleton Area High School. A three sport athlete in high school (water polo, swimming, track), she was an Academic All-American in water polo. A freshman in the honors program, she is undeclared on the pre-med track. 

> Adrianna Lusinski is a 5-7 rower from Vineland, N.J., where she attended Vineland High School. A junior transfer from the University of Tampa, she is a former two-sport athlete (lacrosse, track), qualifying for track nationals in high school. A National Honor Society member, she is a kinesiology major at Temple. 

> Alexa McDermott is a 5-7 rower from Bloomfield, Conn., where she attended The Master's School. A sophomore transfer from the University of Hartford, she was a Dean's List student in the honors program. McDermott is a former high school tennis player and is majoring in health professions at Temple. 

> Hannah Ochinegro is a 5-6 rower from Stratford, N.J., where she attended Sterling High School. A two-sport athlete in high school (softball, soccer), she was a four-year All-Conference selection in both sports, and was her high school's female Athlete of the Year.  Ochinegro is a kinesiology major at Temple.

> Lauren Phongphachone is a 5-1 coxswain from King of Prussia, Pa., where she attended Upper Merion High School. A four-year member of the crew team at her high school, she graduated as magna cum maude, top scholar, and made the distinguished honor roll. A freshman at Temple, she is majoring in film and media arts.

> Stefanie Schwab is a 5-7 rower from Malvern, Pa., where she attended Great Valley High School. A three-sport athlete in high school (swimming, track, golf), she is a junior at Temple, majoring in human resource management.

> Bridget Siebold is a 5-10 rower from Weston, Fla., where she attended Cypress Bay High School. A junior transfer from the University of South Alabama, she was a three-sport athlete in high school (softball, basketball, volleyball). Siebold founded the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi at USA and is majoring in entrepreneurship and innovation management at Temple.

> Morgan Simpson is a 5-7 rower from Wynnewood, Pa., where she attended Lower Merion High School. A three-sport athlete (crew, cross country, track), her crew won nationals in 2018 and took third at the Women's Henley. Simpson is a freshman psychology major at Temple.

> Gabrielle Hope Thelen is a 5-9 rower from Jackson, Mich., where she attended Hanover-Horton High School. A junior transfer from Jackson College, she was a two-year member of the varsity soccer team as a Jet. A three-sport athlete in high school (soccer, basketball, golf), Thelen was a member of the National Honor Society and National Society of High School Scholars. She is a sport management major at Temple.
