Field Hockey Drops 2-1 Heartbreaker at Drexel in Double Overtime

PHILADELPHIA (Drexel) - After scoring the equalizer late in regulation, Temple field hockey (2-13) suffered a heartbreaking loss to city rival Drexel (7-7) as the Dragons got a 2-1 win with a goal in the final minute of the second overtime period.
Game Summary
> The two teams played 34 minutes of scoreless hockey before the Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the final minute of the first half.
> Temple was the aggressor for much of the contest, out-shooting Drexel 14-9 overall and 9-7 in shots on goal, with an 11-9 edge in penalty corners.
> Finally in the 62nd minute, one of those corners paid off as junior Becky Gerhart took a pass from junior Kathryn Edgar and tied the game at 1-1.
> With just a few minutes left in regulation, Temple's sophomore goalkeeper Cristina Carotenuto made a big save to help send the game to overtime.
> Neither team scored in the first 10-minute overtime or in the first nine minutes of the second 10-minute overtime.
> With just 56 seconds left before a shootout, Drexel's Puk Thewessen scored on a corner to end the game.
> The Owls had five total shots and five total corners between the two overtime periods, while Drexel's goal came on the Dragons' only corner and only shot.
Individual Highlights

> Edgar's assist was her team-leading fourth of the season.
