Owls' Annual Hawaiian Night is Friday; Homecoming Sunday
PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team continues American Athletic Conference play with a pair of home games this weekend. The Owls will host Memphis on Friday and Tulane on Sunday.
PROMOTIONS
> The Owls will host their annual "Hawaiian Night" on Friday against Tulsa, thanks to the Heirakuji and Matautia families.
> Free Hawaiian t-shirts will be given to Temple students, while supplies last.
> On Sunday, Temple will welcome back all alums for Homecoming, including honoring the Owls' 1998 Atlantic 10 Championship team.
THE OWLS
> After finishing the non-conference season with a 3-9 overall record, the Owls have opened play in the American Athletic Conference with a 1-6 mark.
> Last time out, the Owls dropped both matches on the road in Florida, falling to UCF and USF.
> Against UCF, Temple dropped the first two sets by just two points each, won the third, but couldn't comeplete a comeback against the league leading Knights.
> A different script, but the same result for Temple on Sunday, as the Owls fell 3-2 at USF, despite winning the first two sets.
> Three players average better than 2.00 kills per set for the Owls, led by sophomore Katerina Papazoglou who also chips in with 3.10 digs per frame.
> Junior Dana Westfield averages 2.33 kills per set, while graduate student Iva Deak adds 2.03 kills per frame with a team-best 64 blocks.
> Graduate student Irem Asci averages 1.94 kills and 2.96 digs per set.
> Senior Hannah Vandegrift leads Temple with 5.32 assists per set, while freshman Tyler Lindgren adds 5.22 assists per set.
> Senior Mia Heirakuji leads the defense with 4.00 digs per frame.
> As a team, Temple hits .186, with opponents hitting .224 against the Owls.

> Memphis is 9-10 overall with a 2-5 mark in conference play.
> The Tigers' offense is ed by Hannah Flowers' 3.56 kills per set.
> Kelsey Bivins has provided solid play all around, with 2.89 kills and 2.16 digs per set.
> Molly Murphy is the primary setter for Memphis, dishing out 9.36 assists per set.
> Kaitlyn Gehler leads the defense with 3.68 digs per frame, while Mady Ruhlman adds 2.24 per set.

> The Green Wave have a balanced attack, with seven players averaging between 1.98 and 2.57 kills per set.
> Lexie Douglas leads the pack with 2.57 kills per frame, while Erika Hansel adds 2.51 per set.
> Makala Heidelberg averages 2.27 kills and 3.86 digs per set.
> Taylor Henigsman and Jenna Ibieta split the setting duties with Henigsman averaging 5.80 assists per set and Ibieta adding 5.09 per frame.
