Men’s Tennis Opens Play at ITA Atlantic Regional Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Temple men's tennis began play at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships on Friday. The tournament is hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. and features the top men's players in the Atlantic region. Friday's slate consisted of the round of 128 singles and three rounds of doubles.

> Temple is represented by Alberto Caceres Casas, Paolo Cucalon, Uladzimir Dorash and Mark Wallner at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships.
> Three Owls, Wallner, Cucalon and Dorash, earned victories in the round of 128 singles and will advance to the round of 64, to be played Saturday morning. Wallner defeated Liberty's Farid Juri 6-2, 6-0. Cucalon downed Guilherme Sergio of Longwood 6-1, 6-3 and Dorash bested James Madison's William Karpinski, 6-1, 6-2. Casas battled against Navy's Derrick Thompson, but the midshipman came out on top, 7-5, 6-4.
> The duos of Casas/Wallner and Dorash/Cucalon handled their opponents in the first round of doubles, defeating them 8-3 and 8-1, respectively. In the second round, Casas/Wallner triumphed over William and Mary's tandem of Kelly/Talcott, 8-3. Dorash/Cucalon challenged Donato/Harper of Virginia Tech, but the Hokies bested the Owls, 8-5. Casas/Wallner moved on to the third round to take on the Virginia Tech's Korsgaard/Ribeiro. The Temple pair emerged victorious, defeating Korsgaard/Ribeiro 8-3 to advance to Saturday's doubles quarterfinals.
