Men’s Tennis Heads to Princeton Invite

10.3.18 | Men's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA— Men's tennis will continue its fall slate this weekend at Princeton's Farnsworth Invitational. The event will be held Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7 at Princeton's Lenz Tennis Center and Jadwin Gym.

The Owls
> Temple is led by head coach Steve Mauro, who is in his 13th year at the helm of the men's program.
> The Owls finished the 2018 spring season with a 10-8 overall record, going 2-1 in the American and 7-1 at home.
> The squad returns seven players from last year, including five upperclassmen. The Owls team is heavy in experience this year, as it features no freshmen and the lone newcomer, Paolo Cucalon, is a junior transfer.
> Last time on the court, the team competed at the Navy Invite and the ITA-All American Championships. The Owls represented the cherry and white against strong competition for their first contests of the fall season.

From Coach Mauro
> " There will be a lot of good teams this weekend at the Princeton Invite," said head coach Steve Mauro. "We are changing up some doubles combinations, so we are looking forward to seeing how these guys perform. They played very well at the last tournament, so we expect that they'll continue that success at Princeton."

About the Farnsworth Invitational
> The event is named in honor of the late Princeton tennis alumnus, All-America honoree and Navy lieutenant, Ted Farnsworth '84.
> This iteration of the Farnsworth Invitational will feature competitors from 15 schools: Army West Point, Bucknell, Buffalo, Colgate, Delaware, Drexel, Gardner Webb, Hofstra, Lehigh, Marist, Middlebury, NJIT, Princeton, Temple and William & Mary.
> This year's tournament will have a different twist. Players will enter in pairs for a "mini Davis Cup format." Each pair will form a team that will play double first, followed by two singles matches. The winner of two of the three matches for each pairing will advance. Losing pairs will continue play in a compass draw that will guarantee four singles and four doubles matches.
> Play will begin at 9 a.m. on each day. Friday will feature one round of singles and two rounds of doubles. Saturday will have two rounds of singles and one round of doubles, while Sunday will consist of one round of singles and doubles.
