10.8.18 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA -- Junior Lukas Fernandes earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for his outstanding efforts on the pitch this past week, helping the Owls to a 3-1 victory over NJIT and a 1-1 tie against Memphis. This marks the second time he has been recognized by the conference this season, after being named AAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24th.Â
Fernandes has played a pivotal role for the Temple offense this season, bringing a particular spark to the squad the past six games. He leads the team in total points (11), goals (4), and assists (3), and carries a field presence that makes him a constant threat all over the pitch. He has contributed at least one point for Temple in five of their last six contests, igniting a particular fire throughout play this past week. In their 3-1 victory over NJIT, Fernandes assisted the first goal, scored the second, and assisted the third to seal the non-conference victory for the Cherry and White. His five point game is good for a season-high across the board for the Owls, extending his point total that his good for the fourth best in the American. In Saturday's 1-1 tie against conference-foe Memphis, he assisted the lone goal of the match when he split a tough Tiger back line to lead a charging Campbell, who darted in behind to take a one-time shot, burying it past the Memphis goalie.
The Owls are back in action on Friday, Oct. 12 when they head to Tampa, Fla. to take on the USF Bulls. Kickoff for the conference match-up is set for 7:00 p.m.
