LEWISBURG, Pa. – Temple pulled away from runner-up Wayne State over the final six holes, turning a five-shot deficit to a three-stroke victory in winning the 2018 Bucknell Invitational Tuesday. Redshirt senior John Barone and senior Trey Wren each shot two-under on the final round to lead the way as the Owls picked up their eighth team title during head coach Brian Quinn's tenure.

Recapping the Day

Barone started the day with a bogey five on hole one, his first of the tournament, but rebounded to play three-under over the final 17 holes to finish in second place with a six-under 134.
Barone's 36-hole score is a career-best, and is the lowest recorded by a Temple Owl in program history. His six-under for 36 holes ties for second behind Brandon Matthews seven-under at the Barnabas Heath Intercollegiate (10/21/13).
Wren was three under after the front nine, but then bogeyed two of the first three holes on the back nine. He rebounded with two birdies over the final six to finish in third place with a three-under 137.
Redshirt junior Erik Reisner was next for Temple, carding a four-over 144 for the tournament to tie for 21^st.
Senior Gary McCabe (+9) and freshman Conor McGrath (+10) rounded out the Owls five, tying for 43^rd and 48^th, respectively.
Sophomore Dawson Anders, playing as an individual, was eight over to tie for 36^th.

The Field

Temple (564) shot even par over the final six holes while Wayne State (567) was eight over in the homestretch to finish three shots back.
Host Bucknell (573) was third in 18-team field, nine strokes back of Temple.

"We leaned on John and Trey pretty much this week and they did a great job," said Temple head coach Brian Quinn. "They really played well. Erik hung in and was able to get the scores we needed. The way he kept it together was a big factor for us."

Notes

It marks the first time the Owls won an tournament since the Cherry and White captured the 2017 season-opening Cornell Invitational (Sept. 16-17).
Temple's 564 team score was a 36-hole record for the Bucknell Invitational. The tournament is sometimes 54-holes, but it has been played as a 36-hole event 16 times.
