Men's Basketball Faces VCU Monday in Legends Classic at the Barclays Center

11.18.18 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - Temple men's basketball takes its 4-0 start on the road, finally, as the Owls head to Brooklyn to continue their run in the GotPrint.com Legends Classic. Temple will take on another undefeated team in VCU (3-0) at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19 (ESPN3 / 1210 AM WPHT).

Scouting Temple
> After going 2-0 in its regional games for the GotPrint.com Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper, Temple now faces VCU for a chance to get to the title game against either St. John's or Cal.
> Temple's 4-0 start is its best since the 2012-13 team won its first six games. That team went on to go 24-10 overall and advance to the NCAA Second Round.
> The Owls are 3-4 all-time at the Barclays Center, most recently having an impressive run and beating back-to-back Top 25 teams (#25 Florida State and #19 West Virginia) to capture the NIT Season Tip-Off title over Thanksgiving of 2016.
> Behind four players who scored in double figures, and a 16-0 run to start the game, the Owls bested Loyola Maryland in their most recent game by a score of 81-67. It was the second straight game in which Temple scored 81 points, and the third time in four games that the Owls allowed exactly 67 points.
> In Temple's other game last week, the Owls held off a late run by Georgia to come away with an 81-77 win and avenge an 18-point loss in Athens a year ago.
> Senior guard Shizz Alston, Jr. scored 25 points vs. Georgia, getting his 1,000th career point early in a 16-point second half. He is the 53rd player in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau and has now scored 1,032 points. Alston's 25-point effort came on the heels of scoring a career-high 30 points in the win over Detroit Mercy.
> Also scoring 25 points vs. Georgia was junior guard Quinton Rose who made 11-of-24 field goals. Rose is also eyeing the 1,000-point mark, currently with 888 points.

Scouting VCU
> The Rams are also undefeated with a 3-0 start, beating Gardner-Webb, Hampton and Bowling Green.
> VCU has relied on very balanced scoring with eight players on the roster averaging between 4.3 and 8 points per game. Two others lead the way as Marcus Evans averages a team-best 11.3 ppg and Isaac Vann is close behind with 10.7 ppg.
> Last year, VCU went 18-15 overall and lost in the Atlantic 10 Tournament quarterfinals. The Rams are just two seasons removed from a 26-9 performance and an NCAA First Round appearance.

Series History vs. VCU
> Temple and VCU have faced each other only once before, as the Rams joined the Atlantic 10 in the Owls' final season.
> The Owls won the match-up on March 10, 2013, taking down #21/19 VCU at home by a score of 84-76. Khalif Wyatt scored a game-high 30 points on his Senior Day to help the Owls overcome a 16-point first-half deficit.
