PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University women's cross country and track and field program announced the signing of Laura Nicholson to a national letter of intent to join the Owls for the 2019-20 seasons. The Cork, Ireland native has put pen to paper, preparing to contribute to the program's continuous success.

"We are very excited to have Laura join our program," said head track and field coach Elvis Forde. "Not only is she excellent on the track, but her cross country pedigree will surely help us continue to develop our program to the level we want it to be. James has done a fantastic job recruiting at the international level to help our program reach the next tier, and Laura will be a crucial addition next year as we continue to ascend up the ladder both at the conference and NCAA level."

Nicholson holds a strong resume in cross country, winning the Irish Nationals last fall and going on to represent her country at the European Championships in Slovakia last December. She also won the Irish Schools 2000-meter steeplechase title, holding a personal record of 6:58 in the event. In the 1500m, Nicholson posts a personal best of 4:30, and her fastest ever 3000m was run in 9:38.

"Laura really connected well with our women on her visit earlier this fall and brings a wide range of abilities to our middle/long distance group," said head cross country coach James Snyder. "Last November she won the Irish National Cross Country Championships and has international experience on the track as well. She's been coached in a way that will allow her to continue to improve during her time in Philadelphia and I'm really looking forward to her joining our program next August."

In the classroom, Nicholson looks to study recreational therapy here at Temple.
