Doerner Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA -- Senior men's soccer captain Hermann Doerner adds another accolade to his resume, earning a spot on the Philadelphia Inquirer Men's Soccer Academic All-Area Team for the second time in his career. Doerner is one of 11 student-athletes selected to the Academic All-Area team, which is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In November, Doerner was recognized as one of the nation's top student-athletes, earning spot on the CoSida Academic All-District First Team.
Doerner has played a pivotal role on the pitch as a four-year starter for Temple since he joined the team in 2015. The two-year team captain has spearheaded the central midfield over his campaign, starting 59 of the 63 games played and helping the squad qualify for the conference tournament three out the last four years. Doerner has notched 13 points from four goals and five assists over his career, playing a critical role both offensively and defensively for the Owls.
In the classroom, Doerner is an International Business major graduating in three and a half years with a 3.91 cumulative GPA. He was named a member of the Trustee Ten in 2017 for having a GPA that ranks among the top 10 highest within the athletic department, and received the Sherwin-Williams Temple Community Service Award in May 2017. A member of the Honors Program within the University's highly regarded Fox School of Business, Doerner also serves as the team's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative as well as an Executive Board Member for SAAC.
Doerner is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Soccer Team by Penn State Brandywine's James Cellucci, West Chester's Kyle Hoops, Penn's Scott Forbes, David Grana of Saint Joseph's, Haverford's Nick Jannelli, Rowan's Ryan Logar, Drexel's Griffin Mallas, Eastern's Jacob Myers and Jake Sankey, and Immaculata's Alex Noel.
