2.20.18 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA - Perfect weather is in the forecast for the next Temple lacrosse game, set for 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at home against city rival Saint Joseph's (1-1). The Owls (2-1) are celebrating "Cause Day," with each member of the team dedicating the game to an organization that's meaningful to them in some way.

Scouting Temple
> The Owls started the season 2-0 before falling to #9 Princeton at home on Feb. 17 by a score of 17-4. To start the year, the Owls won 12-8 vs. Rutgers home on Feb. 10, and dominated in an 18-7 road win at Monmouth on Feb. 17.
> Sophomore goalkeeper Maryn Lowell tied her career high with 17 saves in the loss to Princeton. Lowell's 36 saves this season rank first among all players in NCAA Division I, with her 12 saves per game ranking 13th.
> Senior Nicole Barretta had career performances in the opening two games, and was named the first BIG EAST Attacker of the Week of the 2018 season. After adding a career-high four assists to four goals for a career-high eight total points in the Rutgers win, Barretta scored a career-high seven goals (six in the first half) in the Monmouth victory. Against Princeton, Barretta led the Owls with two points, recording both a goal and an assist. Her 17 total points currently rank fourth in NCAA Division I.
> Fellow senior Kira Gensler also scored a career-high four goals in the win over the Scarlet Knights. The hat trick was the second of Gensler's career, and the fifth for Barretta, who now has six overall.
> Nine different players scored for Temple at Monmouth, and the Owls had 12 total saves (nine by sophomore Maryn Lowell, three by redshirt sophomore Kelsea Hershey). Senior defender Nicole Latgis collected a career-high eight draw controls.
> The Owls will play 11 of their 17 regular-season games at Howarth Field, including a stretch of five straight in March.
> Temple is coming off a 13-5 season that saw the Owls make their second-straight appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament since joining the league as an associate member in 2014. They fell 21-9 to #2 Florida in the BIG EAST Semifinals.
> Head Coach Bonnie Rosen is now in her 12th season at the helm. She stands at 167-175 after 21 years as a head coach, and is 99-94 at Temple (11 years), needing just one more win to reach 100.

Scouting Saint Joseph's
> The Hawks are 1-1 after their opening two games, falling 18-15 at Georgetown but coming back home to defeat Central Connecticut State, 21-8.
> Junior Hayley Sabol leads SJU with eight goals so far, while junior Rebecca Lane has a team-best six assists to go with four goals for a team-best 10 total points.
> The Hawks finished 11-7 overall in 2017, going an impressive 7-2 in the Atlantic 10 to earn the second seed in the A-10 Tournament, but falling 15-11 to third-seeded Richmond in the semifinals.

All-Time Series
> Temple holds a commanding lead of 18-2 in the all-time series against city and former conference rival Saint Jospeh's, and the Owls have won eight straight games dating back to 2009.
> Last year, Temple edged the Hawks 14-13 on the road, and the year before the Owls won 16-4 at home.
> The last time SJU won a game against Temple was back in 2009 when the teams were conference opponents in the Atlantic 10.
