Track & Field Set for American Indoor Championships

PHILADELPHIA – As the regular season comes to a close for Temple women's track and field, the Owls prepare for the 2018 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. Hosted at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala., the championships will take place from Friday, Feb. 23 to Saturday, Feb. 24 .

ITF Championships Day One
> Friday's competition will open up with the women's pentathlon featuring junior co-captain Crystal Jones. At least year's American indoor championships, Jones tallied 3528 points to earn a spot on the podium placing second overall. This season Jones topped her personal best with a 3544 at the Penn State National on Jan. 26. Currently, the junior's personal best mark sits at No. 4 in the conference. Freshman Candus Burks will then represent he Owls in the long jump to begin at 1:30 p.m.
> All track event trials (60m, 60 hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, and mile) will take place on Friday. The mile run will feature senior Katie Pinson, sophomores Millie Howard and Grace Moore, and freshmen Helene Gottlieb and Lucy Jones. In conference standings, Howard's and Pinson's mile times are ranked fifth (4:54.86) and ninth (4:58.43), respectively. Freshman Grace Gillespie will then compete in the 60-meter dash. Gillespie ran her best at the Penn State National where she clocked a time of 7.94.  The 60-meter hurdles will feature sophomore Ebonee Jackson and freshman Sydney Williams. Jackson holds the sixth fastest time in the American with an 8.57 (Navy Lid-Lifter). Gillespie and Jackson will return to the track for the 200m set for a 3:05 p.m. start. Up next will be the 400m, featuring freshmen Mallorie Smith and Williams. Sophomore Ashton Dunkley and Gottlieb are set to compete in the 800m. Gottlieb's fastest time in the event, 2:12.45, sits at No. 8 in the conference.
> Day one will conclude with the distance medley relay (DMR) at 5:05 p.m. Temple's DMR broke the indoor program record at the Penn State National in January with a time of 11:42.9. The squad currently holds the third fastest time in the American just behind Connecticut and Cincinnati.

ITF Championships Day Two
> For the Owls, day two of competition will begin with the high jump. Both Jones and freshman Aisha Brown will compete for the individual title. At the Villanova Invite on Feb. 9, Brown reached a personal best mark of 1.70m (5'7") to take first place overall. Jones' personal best mark in the event is a 1.74m (5'8"5).
> The finals for all track events will take place on Saturday beginning at 11:15 a.m.
> Howard, Jones, Moore, Pinson, and freshman Michelle Joyce will represent Temple in the 3000m on Saturday. At the Fastrack National Invitational on Feb. 9, Moore ran a time of 9:39.29, securing the second fastest 3000m time in the American. Howard's personal best of 9:49.97 sits at No. 8 in conference standings.
> The last competition for the Owls will be the 4x400m relay. Temple ran a season-best time at the Penn State National, completing the relay in 3:51.01.

The weekend will culminate with an awards ceremony at 3:20 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
