Track & Field's DMR Team Earns the Bronze at AAC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time in 2018, Temple track and field broke the program's distance medley relay (DMR) record, surpassing the previous record by six seconds. At the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Friday, the Owls placed third in the event. Looking ahead to day two of competition, five Owls advanced to the finals for their respective events.
Meet Results
> Competition for the Owls kicked off with the pentathlon featuring junior co-captain Crystal Jones. Jones began with the 60-meter hurdles where she ran a time of 9.03 to earn 904 points. Next at the high jump, she cleared a mark of 1.68m (5' 6") to collect 830 points.
> At the shot put, the junior lodged a mark of 9.25m (30' 4.25"), gathering 430 points. Her long jump mark of 5.39m (17' 8.25") earned 668 points. To round out the pentathlon, Jones ran a 2:25.27 in the 800-meter run to add 753 points. Jones tallied a personal-best total 3635 points to place fourth overall behind Naomia Urbano (Cincinnati), Kaitlyn Kirby (USF), and Angelica Lightfoot (Cincinnati).
> Next up for Temple was the mile run preliminary round. In the first heat, sophomores Millie Howard and Grace Moore finished second and third with times 4:54.73 and 4:54.91, respectively. Freshman Helene Gottlieb and senior Katie Pinson finished first and second in 5:00.60 and 5:00.64, respectively. Finally, freshman Lucy Jones rounded out the squad finishing third in her heat with a 5:03.90. All five Owls will advance to the finals set for 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
> In the 800-meter run, Gottlieb finished second in her heat with a personal best time of 2:11.96, a performance that will push her through to the finals.
> Temple closed out the evening with the DMR. Comprised of Howard, freshman Sydney Williams, Lucy Jones, and Pinson, the relay team clocked a time of 11:36.18 to top the program's previous indoor record set on Jan. 26 at Penn State. The Owls earned a spot on the podium for their performance, taking third place overall.
