2.27.18 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA -  Armante' Marshall has been added to the Temple men's soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach after serving on Jacksonville University's coaching staff the past three years, announced head coach Brian Rowland. Marshall, an avid recruiting coordinator for JU, comes to Temple with seven years of Division I coaching experience.

"Armante' is a great addition to our soccer staff here at Temple," said Rowland.  "He has a wealth of collegiate experience, as a player and in various coaching roles at the Division I level.  Armante' is a tireless recruiter, and extremely personable and hardworking coach.  Our players, and program as a whole, will benefit tremendously by his appointment to the staff.   I know that he shares our passion, and ambition for the future of Temple Men's Soccer."

Marshall began coaching at Jacksonville in 2014, playing a key role in the resurgence of the men's soccer program. In his time there, he helped coach the Dolphins to the NCAA Tournament in 2015 and 2016 along with guiding them to their first ASUN Conference Championship appearance in eight years during the 2016 season.

"I am very excited for this new opportunity to work with Coach Rowland and for the great support from the rest of the department at such a prestigious academic and athletic institution in Temple University," said Marshall.  "Brian has very big plans and standards for the Temple men's soccer program, and I am truly looking forward to working with him, Coach Grazier and the players in order to uphold those standards. I will always be indebted to Coach George Kiefer for giving me a start in this profession, and forever grateful to Coach Mauricio Ruiz for allowing me to grow as a coach under his tutelage. This is a tremendous opportunity that I don't take lightly, and I can't wait to get started."

Marshall joined Jacksonville after serving on staff for his alma mater, the University of South Florida. In a four-year stint with the Bulls, he helped guide the men's soccer team to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, as well as two conference titles in 2011 and 2013.

Marshall played a key role in helping many of his players move on to the professional ranks in both of his previous coaching positions. Rijad Kobiljar (FC Sarajevo) & Joe Amico (Swope Park Rangers- USL) signed professional contracts following their playing careers at Jacksonville. At USF, Marshall played a role in the development of over 20 players who moved onto the professional ranks from 2011-2014, with nine players selected in the MLS Super Draft, two of which were first-round selections (Dom Dwyer- Sporting KC- 2011 and Ben Sweat- Columbus Crew- 2014).

As a player, Marshall was a member of the 2007 USF team that advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and was a key contributor for the 2008 Big East Championship team that advanced to the Elite Eight. During his time at USF, the Bulls held the third longest home winning streak in NCAA history, going 32 games unbeaten from 2007-2009. He was also a member of the USF track and field team, where he was an All-Big East Team selection (2008-2010) and a part of USF's record-breaking 4x100 meter relay in 2010.

Marshall earned his bachelor's degree in social science from the University of South Florida in 2010. A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Marshall currently holds a USSF License.
