Gymnastics to Face ECAC Opponents Penn and Yale at Maryland

PHILADELPHIA - This week Temple gymnastics readies for a quad meet at Maryland on Friday, Mar. 2. The Terrapins will host the Owls along with Temple's ECAC opponents Penn and Yale for a 7 p.m. competition at Maryland's Xfinity Center.
Scouting the Owls
>Temple remains at No. 1 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference and fifth in the North East region with a team RQS of 194.190.
> On Saturday at Air Force's tri-meet, the Owls posted a 193.375. Three out of four Temple events finished with 48.00 or higher, including a meet-high 48.7 on bars. Senior Sahara Gipson led the vault competitors, as her 9.8 tied UNH's Lauren Diggan for first place.
> Last season at Maryland, the Owls set two program records with a 194.90-team score and a 49.125 vault score. Gipson placed first on vault with the first 9.875 vault score in program history.
Scouting the Terrapins
> Maryland enters the weekend with a 195.385 RQS ranked No. 32 in the nation. The Terrapins hit a season-high 196.575 on Feb. 11 against William & Mary, Brown, and Rutgers.
> In its last competition, Maryland topped West Chester and Southern Connecticut State with a 195.150, snagging podium finishes on every event. Audrey Barber scored a 38.625 to place first in the all-around. Barber and Emily LeBlanc both posted career-highs of 9.9 to tie for first on bars. Karrie Thomas placed first on beam with a 9.8 to lead the team to its highest event score of the night (49.250). Alecia Farina earned the individual floor title with a 9.85 followed by a pair of 9.8's from Audrey Barber and Collea Burgess to tie for first on vault.
Scouting the Quakers
> This week Penn ranks ninth in the North East region and fourth in the ECAC.
> At the Ivy Classic on Feb. 25, Penn placed third overall with a season-high team score of 193.875. The Quakers reached a new season high event score on bars after tallying a 48.750. The squad pulled a 49.150 on floor led by Nicole Swirlabus and Darcy Matsuda with a pair of 9.8's.
Scouting the Bulldogs
> Yale ranks second in the ECAC with a team RQS of 193.125. In the North East region, the Bulldogs rank eighth.
> Yale gymnastics earned its 15th Ivy Classic title on Feb. 25 at Brown after posting a season high 195.025. The Bulldogs snagged three of four event titles with Jade Buford earning the meet's best all-around score. Buford notched a 9.9 to place first on floor and hit a 9.8 to win the vault title. Jessica Wang snagged first on bars with a 9.9.
