Gymnastics Dominates ECAC Weekly Awards

Danbury, Conn. – After a record-breaking weekend in McGonigle Hall, three Temple gymnastics student-athletes were tabbed for the Eastern Athletic Conference's weekly awards. Sophomore Daisy Todd is this week's Gymnast of the Week, sophomore Jaylene Everett earned Specialist of the Week, and freshman Tori Edwards secured the Rookie of the Week title. Todd, Everett, and Edwards each were key contributors to both Friday's 195.800 and Sunday's 196.050 program records.

On Friday against Penn and Maryland, Todd helped the Owls to shattering the program record with a 195.800. She contributed a season-high 9.8 on vault, a 9.775 on bars and a 9.675 on beam. On Sunday against Rutgers, Lindenwood and Eastern Michigan, Temple started off on vault where Todd pulled in a 9.725. On bars, she was one of Temple's top scorers with a 9.825. On the balance beam, Todd added another 9.825. 
 
Everett led the Owls with a career-high 9.875 vault score, placing third overall on Friday. She then added another 9.875 to tie her career-best and help the Owls to their highest floor score in program history (49.150). On Sunday, Everett scored a 9.85 on vault. She then returned for floor, scoring a career-best 9.925 helping the team to a new program best floor score of 49.300. Everett is just the second Owl in program history to earn a 9.925 for a floor exercise routine and the first since 2002.
 
Edwards kicked off the weekend leading Temple's floor lineup to the highest floor exercise score in program history (49.150). The freshman earned a career-high 9.9 for her flawless routine; the highest individual floor score the program has seen in six years, taking first place overall at Friday's meet. Edwards is just the third Owl in program history to score a 9.9 on the floor exercise. On bars, Edwards was one of Temple's top scorers with a 9.825. On vault, the freshman posted a solid 9.775. In Sunday's competition, Edwards combined scores of a 9.825 on vault, a 9.7 on bars, a 9.8 on beam, and a 9.8 on floor to tally a career-best all-around score of 39.125, earning the top all-around spot.
 
Temple gymnastics will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 16 at Kent State for a 7 p.m. tri-meet.
