Lacrosse Hosts #22 Denver for Alumni Day on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - Looking for win number three in a row and its first upset of a nationally ranked team in 2018, Temple lacrosse hosts #22/16 Denver (4-2) at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 18 in the BIG EAST Conference opener. The Owls (5-3) are celebrating Alumni Day, and will recognize all alums in attendance at halftime of the game. All alums will also receive a free t-shirt!

On March 18...
In 1988:
Temple beat Yale, 16-12, in its home opener to start a season that would see the Owls win the NCAA Championship for a second time, and finish with a school-record 276 goals scored. 
In 1998:
The Owls improved to 3-0 with a crushing win over Villanova at home, 24-5.
In 2009:
Freshman Allison McWilliams tallied three goals for a hat trick vs. Delaware.

Scouting Temple
> Sunday's game is the fourth of five straight home games for the Owls, who will play a total of 11 (of 17) games at Howarth Field in 2018.
> The Owls are coming off back-to-back wins, beating ECU 15-6 and La Salle 8-4 in a defensive battle. Sophomore goalkeeper Maryn Lowell made 13 saves vs. La Salle, and was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on March 13.
> Lowell, who tied her career high with 17 saves vs. Princeton on Feb. 17, has 81 saves so far this season to rank tied for first among all players in NCAA Division I. Her 10.13 saves per game rank 19th.
> Up just 6-5 at the break vs. ECU, Temple started the second half with a 9-0 run and allowed the Pirates only one goal after that stretch.
> The Owls' leader in points in the ECU win was freshman Jackie Cerchio with two goals to go with a career-high five assists. Both junior Amber Lambeth and sophomore Maddie Gebert scored four goals apiece, while senior Kira Gensler, back from three games out due to injury, scored two goals and added two assists.
>Gebert leads the Owls this season with 16 goals, while Cerchio has a team-best seven assists. Senior defender Nicole Latgis has team-bests in caused turnovers (16) and ground balls (22), while ranking second in draw controls (28). Sophomore Kara Nakrasius leads the Owls with 32 draw controls.
> Two of Temple's three losses have come against teams ranked in the IWLCA Top 10 - #9 Princeton and #7 James Madison.

Scouting Denver
> The Pioneers are 4-2 overall and coming off a 21-10 win vs. Niagara on March 10.
> Denver started the season with a 12-9 win vs. #23 Stanford, and one of its two losses was to #24 Virginia Tech, 11-5.
> Junior attacker Julia Feiss has been dominant offensively for the Pioneers with 18 goals and three assists for 21 total points. Also reaching double figures in goals so far is junior midfielder Elizabeth Behrins with 10 goals.
> Junior Maddie Baum has been Denver's leader on the draw with 29 draw controls so far.
> Sophomore goalkeeper Carson Gregg has played every minute in the cage and has a save percentage of .438.
> Last year, Denver went 14-4 before finishing the season with a loss to #2 Florida in the BIG EAST Championship game.

All-Time Series
> Temple and Denver are meeting for the third time, and second as conference opponents.
> The Pioneers have won both prior meetings, beating the Owls 14-6 in Denver last season, and winning 12-9 in Denver in 2014.
> The Pioneers were ranked 14th in the IWLCA Poll during last season's meeting, and are currently ranked 22nd.
