PHILADELPHIA - Kim Silva, who recently served as Assistant Director of Compliance for Financial Aid at Appalachian State University, has been named the Director of Compliance and Student-Athlete Affairs at Temple University.
Silva will be the primary admissions contact for the compliance and student-athlete affairs office as well as serving as the liaison for the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). She will also oversee compliance for several of the University's sports. Â
"We are excited to have Kim join our compliance and student-athlete affairs staff," said Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Services Kristy Bannon Sromovsky. "She has the experience, both as a member of a compliance staff as well as being a former student-athlete, to come in and hit the ground running."  Â
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with Temple University's student-athletes, coaches and administration as a part of the compliance and student-athlete affairs staff," said Silva. "I am excited to use my personal and professional experience to help our Temple student-athletes grow both on and off the field."
In her two years at Appalachian State, Silva was charged with monitoring and administering all athletics financial aid, enuring that the University was compliant with all applicable NCAA legislation. She also administered National Letters of Intent and assisted coaches in managing scholarship budgets throughout the year.
Prior to her arrival at ASU, Silva worked as an intern in the compliance office at her alma mater, the University of Connecticut, while completing her master's degree in sport management (2016). In her role, she handled all student-athlete services, including housing, student-athlete employment and vehicle registration. She also assisted staff with monitoring eligibility, admissions status and financial aid limitations.
A standout student-athlete, Silva was a four-year starter for the UConn softball team, where she earned a bachelors degree in communications sciences (2013). She was named All-Big East First Team at third base during her junior year and All-Big East Second Team as an outfielder her senior year. During her final season with the Huskies she started in 52 games finishing second on the team and eighth in the Big East with a .364 batting average. She led the team with seven home runs and a .605 slugging percentage and finished her career ninth in school history with 18 home runs. She was named to the Big East Academic All-Star Team from 2009 through 2013. Silva was named an NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete and a UConn Club Outstanding Senior Scholar-Athlete in 2013.
