Women's Rowing Grabs Two Knecht Cup Medals

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The Temple women's rowing team saw five of six boats qualify to grand finals, coming away with a gold and bronze medal after a successful showing at the 2018 Knecht Cup. The Owls won the second varsity four race, while finishing third in the varsity four race on Lake Mercer.
VARSITY EIGHT
> The Owls finished in fifth place overall in a stacked field. The grand final saw a spread of under two second between the second through fifth place finishers.
> Temple's finals time of 6:47.09 was ahead of Harvard-Radcliffe and George Washington, but narrowly behind Penn, BC, BU, and Wisconsin.
> Temple earned a spot in the grand finals with a second place finish in the opening heats. The Owls clocked in at 6:52.12, just 1.72 seconds off the pace of George Washington, while defeating UMass, Villanova, Old Dominion, and George Mason.
SECOND VARSITY EIGHT
> In a strong field, Temple finished just off the medal stand, taking fourth in the event. The Owls clocked in at 6:52.50 in the grand final, behind BC, Penn, and Miami, and ahead of George Washington, UConn, and Kansas.
> The Owls won their opening heat in a time of 6:54.23 to advance to the finals. Temple topped Kansas, George Washington, UMass, Villanova, and Duquesne in the process.
THIRD VARSITY EIGHT
> The Owls were just outside of a podium finish, taking fourth place in the grand finals in a time of 7:17.35. The crew grabbed wins over Kansas, Old Dominion, and Villanova, finishing just behind UConn, BC, and Wisconsin.
> Temple grabbed second in its opening heat, recording a time of 7:13.47 to advance over UConn, and Old Dominion.
VARSITY FOUR
> It was a bronze medal for the Owls in the varsity four, as the team clocked in at 7:42.63, just behind Penn and BC in the grand final. The Owls topped Miami, UMass, and Harvard-Radcliffe in the process.
> In the semifinals, the Owls topped a field of six, with a 7:39.14, to defeat BC, Harvard-Radcliffe, George Washington, Kansas, and UConn.
> The Owls won their heat by nearly eight seconds, as their time of 7:41.22 pushed them ahead of Miami, BU, UConn, Wichita State, and George Mason.
SECOND VARSITY FOURS
> The Owls' "A" crew won gold in an ultra tight race, as Temple out-sprinted Kansas, 7:43.16 to 7:43.21, to win. Temple also defeated Penn, BC, UMass, Harvard-Radcliffe, and UConn in the race.
> The boat cruised into the finals with an eight second win in the heats, recording a time of 7:48.68 to top BC, Penn, UConn, UMass, and Old Dominion.
> The Owls' "B" boat narrowly missed a spot in the finals, as just .13 seconds was the difference in advancing. Temple finished in 8:14.97 to outpace boats from Manhattan and Jefferson.

> Temple will race at the Kelly Cup next weekend, as the unofficial City Championships are contested on the Schuylkill River.
