Women's Rowing Wins First Ever Eastern Sprints Medal

WORCESTER, Mass. — In their final tune-up before conference championships, the Temple women's rowing team had a successful showing at the 2018 Eastern Sprints held on Lake Quinsigamond. The Owls grabbed a silver medal and recorded two fourth place finishes at the event.
HISTORY MAKERS
> Temple's second varsity four earned the first ever Eastern Sprints for the Owls in program history. The crew left Worcester with silver.
VARSITY EIGHT
> Temple got the best of local rival Drexel in the last meeting between the team's this season, en route to a second place finish in the petite final.
> The Owls recorded a 6:40.898, just behind Tennessee (6:37.418) and ahead of Drexel (6:43.646), Boston College (6:45.070), MIT (6:50.202), UConn (6:51.154) and Holy Cross (7:03.722).
> Temple earned a spot in the petite final by clocking in at 6:44.364 in the opening heats.
SECOND VARSITY EIGHT
> The Owls finished sixth overall, advancing to the grand finals, where they posted a 6:55.166.
> In a stacked field, Radcliffe won the six-boat race that from top-to-bottom was separated by only 10 seconds.
> To get the the grand finals, the Owls finished second in the opening heat, recording a time of 6:49.087.
THIRD VARSITY EIGHT
> Temple won the third varsity eight petite final by nearly 10 seconds over Drexel.
> The Owls finished in 7:24.876 to Drexel's 7:34.521 to finish seventh overall.
> Temple earned a spot in the petite finals with a fourth place finish in the opening heats in 7:14.294.
VARSITY FOUR A
> Temple was just off the podium in the varsity four race, finishing fourth overall.
> The Owls clocked in at 7:36.286 in the grand finals ahead of Tennessee and Boston College, but behind Radcliffe, Dartmouth, and Drexel.
> In the opening heats, Temple won in 7:35.645, ahead of Tennessee, Rutgers, and conference-foe UConn.
VARSITY FOUR B
> The Owls grabbed silver medals in a deep field in the second varsity four event.
> In the finals, Temple clocked in at 7:55.476, behind only Rutgers' time of 7:45.272.
> The Owls beat a host of strong boats in Radcliffe (7:58.164), Columbia (8:02.188), BC (8:03.808) and Northeastern (8:04.092).
> In the heats, Temple took second in 7:52.653 to advance to the finals.
VARSITY FOUR C
> The Owls finished just outside of the medals, taking fourth place in the grand finals.
> Columbia won the event, while Temple clocked in at 8:44.305.

> Temple will have a weekend off before competing at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Rowing Championships on May 12.
