Track & Field Finishes Day One at the AAC Outdoor Championships; Howard and Gottlieb Advance in the 800 Meter Run
5.11.18 | Women's Track and Field
CINCINNATI - The performances of sophomore Millie Howard and freshman Helene Gottlieb in the 800 meter trials were the highlight of day one for Temple track & field at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The duo both advanced to Sunday's final in the event, and both will also compete on Saturday in the 1,500 meter.
800 Meter Run Trials
> Howard (2:08.51) and Gottlieb (2:10.12) both placed second in their respective heats. They finished fourth and fifth overall, both advancing to Sunday's 800 meter run final at 5:50 p.m.
400 Meter Hurdles Trials
> With the 10th-fastest overall time of 1:01.44, freshman Ebonee Jackson finished just two spots out of qualifying for Sunday's final.
10,000 Meter Run
> Junior Katie Leisher placed eighth in 37:27.58 to score one point and wrap up competition for the Owls on day one.
Quotable
> "We advanced some individuals we were confident would advance. It was a good, relaxing 800 meter for Millie and for Helene as well and it's good to have them both moving on. We thought Ebonee and Sydney (Williams) had a good chance in the 400 hurdles, but the competition at championships is just that much harder and we're not disappointed. It's a big learning experience for them as freshmen." - Temple head coach Elvis Forde
> "Katie came off the track disappointed and we were for her as well. We projected her in the top six and she has put in the work and the time, but the 10,000 is a grueling race and you have to stay mentally focused the whole way. At some point she lost that a little bit and you can't afford that. Nevertheless, she earned our first point of the meet. Overall I'm happy with what we've done so far and we hope for a few surprises here and there as we move on to day two." - Temple head coach Elvis Forde
