Volleyball Releases 2018 Schedule

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team has released its 2018 schedule, which has the Owls opening at home, hosting the Temple Invitational in August. The Owls are coming off a 2018 season that saw the team rack up another 20 win campaign, plus a trip to postseason for the first time since 2002.Â
NATIONAL CALIBER SCHEDULE
> Temple will again face a tough schedule for both non-conference and American Athletic Conference play.
> The Owls' slated opponents include eight teams who have made NCAA trips in the last two seasons, including Utah a Sweet 16 team last year, and perennial powerhouse, Penn State, who advanced to the Final Four last season.
> Temple's schedule features 12 teams that appeared in the top 100 of NCAA RPI last year, including three top-25 teams and a pair of top-10 opponents.

> "Every year we try to have a more impressive non-conference schedule than then year before, but this year by far is the most competitive. It's the most challenging schedule we've had since I've been here, we're playing some really exciting programs. NON-CONFERENCE
> The Owls will play in four tournaments during non-conference play, two at home and two on the road.
> Temple opens up with the Temple Invitational at McGonigle Hall on August 24 and 25, welcoming Rhode Island, LMU, and Hofstra to town.
> The Owls' first road test comes at the Penn State Invitational August 31 and September 1. Temple will play host Penn State, along with Texas A&M and Indiana.
> Temple heads to the Villanova Invitational the following weekend, playing Utah and High Point at Villanova, while returning home to host the Wildcats on Sunday.
> The Owls' final non-conference tournament is the Cherry and White Challenge, played at McGonigle Hall September 14 and 15, featuring Maryland, Princeton, and New Hampshire.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
> Temple finished second in the balanced American Athletic Conference last season, behind only #19 Wichita State. The Owls racked up a 15-5 overall mark in conference play, defeating every team but the Shockers.
> Four teams made postseason out of the American last season, including Wichita State (NCAA), and Temple, SMU, and UCF (NIVC).
> The Owls open the conference slate on the road at Houston and SMU September 21 and 23, while returning to McGonigle Hall to face UConn on September 28 in their AAC opener.Â
> Other conference home matches for the Owls include Cincinnati (Oct. 5), East Carolina (October 7), Memphis Oct. 19), Tulane (Oct. 21), USF (Nov. 1), UCF (Nov. 3), Wichita State (Nov. 16) and Tulsa (Nov. 18).
> On the road, Temple will travel to UCF (Oct. 12), USF (Oct. 14), Tulsa (Oct. 26), Wichita State (Oct. 28), Tulane (Nov. 9), Memphis (Nov. 11), and UConn (Nov. 21).
