PHILADELPHIA – Temple University Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Strategic Vision and Planning Committee.
Kraft, who is in his fourth year as the Owls' athletic director, will serve a four-year appointment on the Strategic Vision and Planning Committee through June 2022. The committee will have oversight responsibility of administrative functions related to the management of the Division I governance structure, including business and legal affairs, strategic planning and research (including recommendations regarding research topics and expenditure of funds for projects), Division I membership activities (including the reclassification process), and health and safety matters.
One of the most respected administrators in the nation, Kraft has been named to both the Sports Business Journal and Philadelphia Business Journal's prestigious Forty Under 40 Lists.
Under his leadership, Temple Football went to consecutive bowl games for the first time in school history, won the 2016 AAC Championship and the 2017 Gasparilla Bowl.
Temple Men's Crew won its first Dad Vail Regatta since 2004 and will travel to the Henley Royal Regatta at the end of this month for its first appearance in the prestigious race since 1994.
Temple's student-athletes success has reached the classroom with record highs in Graduation Success Rate (tied for 27th among all FBS schools in 2017) and APR (12th nationally).
Under his direction, Temple has become a leader in student-athlete mental health, hiring the department's first full-time mental health professional in December 2017.
Temple also has opened three athletics facilities since 2016, the Temple Sports Complex, home to five sports, the East Park Canoe House, home to men's crew and women's rowing, and a new on-campus golf practice facility.
