Women’s Soccer’s Depth Was on Display in 3-0 Win over Delaware State

8.26.18 | Women's Soccer

Dover, Del. - Temple women's soccer (2-1) earned its second victory of the weekend with a strong performance against Delaware State (0-4). The Owls tallied three goals and commanded the contest against the Hornets, recording their second shutout in a row in the 3-0 win.

Keys to the Match
> Senior forward Kerri McGinley struck first for the Owls, scoring in the second minute of the match.
> Sophomore midfielder Emma Wilkins logged her second goal of the season off a penalty kick in the 21st minute.
> The Owls' third goal came in the 81st minute. Junior defender Emily Keitel seized an opportunity and blasted a shot straight to the right upper 90 from 40 yards out.
> Junior goalkeeper Jordan Nash had a huge save, denying a Hornets penalty kick.

Match Notes
> Temple took control of the match from the start, beginning with McGinley's early goal. The Owls outshot the Hornets 12-3.
> Every student-athlete on the Temple roster saw the field today, allowing the Owls to experiment with various lineups.
> This was Temple's second game in three days (defeated Sacred Heart on Friday). They rose to the challenge and scored their highest number of goals (3) for the season thus far.
> The Owls recorded their second shutout of the season.
> Temple is undefeated against Delaware State. The Owls hold an 8-0-0 advantage in the series.

Quotable
> Head coach Seamus O'Connor has highlighted depth as one of his team's greatest strengths. "The biggest success of the game is that every single player on the roster played," O'Connor said. "We were delighted to get an opportunity for everyone to play. They've worked really hard at practice and preseason and it was great that they all got a chance to play today."
> "Emily Keitel's goal was absolutely outrageous, absolutely world-class," said O'Connor. "From 40 yards out, to be able to call it… It wasn't lucky. It was one that she meant. She saw the goalkeeper off her line, took a touch, and then just sailed it over her head to the top corner."

Next Up
> Temple returns home to the Temple Sports Complex to take on Maryland on Friday, August 31 at 7 p.m.
