Men's Soccer Heads to Princeton Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA –After hosting their first home match of the season this past Saturday, the Temple men's soccer squad is back on the road this Wednesday, September 12th as they travel to Princeton, N.J. to take on the Tigers. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.

On the Road Again
> Temple is 2-3 on the season, traveling to Princeton for their fifth road game of 2018. The Owls are coming off of back-to-back overtime contests, splitting the results. Both games ended before entering into a second period of overtime.
> Two Owls are tied at the top of the score sheet with one goal apiece. Both finishes were well-earned, as junior Zach Brown notched the game winner at ODU with only 10 men on the field, and freshman Jalen Campbell tallied the overtime decider to take down Rider.
> As for assists, four athletes share the lead with one each. Uniquely, both of Temples' goals on the season stemmed from the direct efforts of multiple players, awarding two people with the assist for each goal.
> Junior goalkeeper Simon Lefebvre spearheads the Owls in net, boasting a goals against average of 0.72 with a team-leading 12 saves in his 373 minutes of action on the year.

Last Time Out, First Time Home
> The Owls enter the match coming off of a 1-0 overtime loss to the St. John's Red Storm after a 99th minute decision. This was the second overtime competition in a row for the Owls, after defeating Rider in the 94th minute last Wednesday.
> Temple dominated possession throughout the match, but was unable to capitalize on created opportunities. The Owls out-shot the Red Storm 13-11, with Simon Lefebvre tallying five saves.
> The lone goal of the match came in the 99th minute off of a Red Storm corner kick. This was only the third goal against the Owls this season, all three of which have come from set pieces.

Scouting Princeton
> The Tigers enter their fifth game of the season with a record of 1-3, after falling 1-0 in their home opener against Monmouth on Saturday. Princeton nearly held on, but dropped to Hawks after a goal in the 84th minute.
> Senior Sean McSherry leads the Tigers offense with four points, scoring one goal and two assists this season.
> Junior Danny Hampton and sophomore Gaby Paniagua tie McSherry at the top of the score sheet with one goal apiece.
> Jacob Schachner has tallied all 360 minutes in net for the Tigers, posting a goals against average of 1.00 along with six saves on the season. Schachner has a record of 1-3-0, recording a shutout in the lone against Delaware.

67 Years Later
> The last time the Owls faced the Tigers, Harry S. Truman was president of the United States and the Korean War was just beginning. The matchup came in 1951, when Temple defeated the Tigers, 5-0, putting the Owls up 1-0-0 in the all-time series.

One and Done
> Both teams enter the match with three losses on the season, but neither squad has fallen by a deficit of more than one goal so far in 2018.
> Princeton's three losses occurred after falling to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 1-0, Bradley 1-2, and Monmouth 1-0.
> Temple has dropped 1-0 this season to UMBC, VCU and St. John's, respectively.

Weekly Recognition
> Another Owl notched conference accolades this week when freshman forward Campbell was named Rookie of the Week by both the American Athletic Conference and the Philly Soccer Six. Campbell plays a pivotal role in the attacking third for the Owls, having started all five games as a freshman at forward this season. He earned the honors after notching the game-winner in Temple's 1-0 overtime win at Rider in the 94th minute of play.
