Barone Fires Six-Under to Lead Golf at Cornell Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – Redshirt senior John Barone shot consecutive three-under rounds of 68 Saturday to lead Temple Golf to a fifth place showing on day one of the Cornell Invitational. Barone sits in second place among the 81 golfers in the 15-team field at the tournament which is being held at the 6,904-yard, par-71 Robert Trent Golf Course at Cornell University.

Recapping the Day

Barone had 12 birdies, tying for the most in the field. over 36 holes for the day, including four over the final seven holes following a double-bogey six on the 11^th.
Senior Trey Wren carded two even par rounds of 71 to tie for 13^th with a 142. He had five birdies on the day and his 26 pars tied for second in the field.
Senior Gary McCabe, who struggled with a four-over for his final nine holes, was third for the Owls and tied for 47^th overall with a seven-over 149.
Freshman Conor McGrath, playing his first collegiate match, was two shots back of McCabe (+9, 151) and tied for 59^th. His round two eagle on the 533-yard, par 5 sixth hole was one of just seven on the day, and the lone one for Temple.
Junior Erik Reisner, playing as an individual, is tied for 15^th overall with a one-over 143. He had six birdies in his opening round, a one-under 70.

The Field

Yale shot a 14-under 554 and leads second place Saint Joseph's (573) but 19 strokes.
Temple carded a 10-over 578, sits just five shots behind the Hawks.
Siena's Jared Nelson shot back-to-back 67s and, at eight-under, is two shots ahead of Barone.
Barone has now shot five straight sub-par rounds at the Robert Trent Golf Course dating back to last year. He shot three one-under 70s at last year's tournament, placing second by a stoke.
