PHILADELPHIA -- Temple women's rowing head coach Rebecca Smith Grzybowski has announced the additions of Madeleine Boudreau and Anna Cruse to the Owls' staff, beginning with the 2018-19 season. Both will serve as graduate assistant coaches for the program.

"Both Anna and Maddie have spent summers training and racing on the Schuylkill and we are thrilled to welcome them back to Philly full time," said Grzybowski. "We were really impressed throughout the interview process with their energy, their passion for rowing and coaching, and their belief in who we are and what we are creating at Temple."

Boudreau boasts a storied career as a rower, spending all four years of her collegiate career competing in the varsity eight boat for Trinity College.

At Trinity, Boudreau led her crews to an impressive four year stretch, where the Bantams captured the NCAA Championship in 2014, and the NCAA varsity eight title in both 2014 and 2015. The co-captain of her team as a senior, she culminated her collegiate career with a first-team All-American selection. Boudreau's boats also took gold at the Head of the Charles in 2012 and the Head of the Schuylkill in 2013, while winning the varsity eight and team points title at the NEIRA in 2014.

Following her illustrious college career, Boudreau spent the last two years working as an aerospace systems engineer for Belcan Engineering LLC. At Belcan, she was charged with automated data analysis for jet engine health monitoring systems used on the Pratt and Whitney F-135 Fighter Jet.

In addition to working full time, Boudreau served as the volunteer novice rowing coach at her alma mater where her 2018 Novice 4+s won the novice 4+ event at the Head of the Fish and placed third racing as a 3V4+ at the NEIRA Championships.

Boudreau graduated from Trinity College in 2016 with a bachelor of science in engineering, and will pursue a masters degree in mechanical engineering from Temple.

Cruse is an accomplished rower both nationally and internationally. She walked on to the team at Minnesota, advancing from the freshman eight to the varsity eight boat in her four-year career. Cruse was named a CRCA and Academic All-Big Ten selection as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and was a CRCA Distinguished Scholar award-winner as a senior.

Cruse continued her rowing career over the summer while in college, winning club nationals in the senior lightweight pair in 2015 and placing third in the lightweight U23 single at 2016 Under 23 trials. Following graduation, she rowed out of Union Boat Club in Boston, Mass., and won Under 23 trials in the lightweight women's quad earning a spot on the 2017 U23 national team. As part of Team USA, Cruse traveled to Plovdiv, Bulgaria to compete at the 2017 Under 23 World Championships, winning the B final, and placing 7th overall.

Following U23 World Championships, Cruse trained out of Riverside Boat Club in Boston, where she placed second at Head of the Charles in the Championship Women's Quad.

Cruse spent the past year working in a physical therapy clinic, working with athletes on returning to sport post injury or surgery. She also served as a coach at Boston University's recreational learn to row program.

A 2017 graduate of the University of Minnesota, Cruse majored in kinesiology with a minor in Nutrition. At Temple, she will be pursuing a masters degree in integrative exercise physiology.

"The impressive successes that Maddie and Anna have accomplished in their individual rowing careers made them stand out," added Grzybowski. "They both know firsthand what it takes to compete and succeed on some of the biggest rowing stages in the country and the world, and we are excited to add their perspective and experience to our team as we pursue our goals of winning a conference championship and competing at NCAA's."
