1.31.19 | Women's Fencing

PHILADELPHIA - The weekend of the longest dual meet each season has arrived for #10 Temple fencing as the Owls (9-5) head to the annual Northwestern Duals on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 2-3.

Meet Information
> The two-day meet is being held at Northwestern's brand-new Ryan Fieldhouse, a 96,135-square-foot football practice facility that's part of a larger $270 million sports complex with skyline views just feet from Lake Michigan.
> Northwestern has not hosted the meet on its campus since 2015 because of construction of the facility.
> Temple will face 11 total teams including five Top 10 teams in #1 Notre Dame, #2 Northwestern, #5 Ohio State, #6 Princeton and #8 Duke.
> On Saturday, Feb. 2, the Owls' schedule starts with Incarnate Word at 9 a.m. They'll face Duke at 10 a.m., Northwestern at 12:30 p.m., Stanford at 1:30 p.m., UC San Diego at 2:30 p.m. and Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m.
> On Sunday, Feb. 3, Temple faces Air Force at 8 a.m., Princeton at 9 a.m., Ohio State at 10 a.m., Lawrence at 11 a.m. and UNC at 1:30 p.m.

Scouting Temple
> In their last outing, the 10th-ranked Owls defeated two teams ranked above them in the CollegeFencing360 Coaches Poll, taking down both #5 Ohio State and #9 Penn at the Philadelphia Invitational on Jan. 20.
> The Owls are 9-5 overall so far this season, with all five losses coming to teams ranked above them in the Top 10.
> Last year's Northwestern Duals was a memorable one, with head coach Dr. Nikki Franke earning her 800th career win on the second day of the meet.
> Overall, Temple went 8-2 at last year's Northwestern Duals after going a program-record 11-1 the year prior.
> The best record on the team so far this year belongs to junior Malia Hee of the sabre squad, who has gone 23-9 overall. Right behind her is junior Kerry Plunkett at 22-11 overall.
> Senior Ally Micek leads the epee squad at 20-14 this season.
> Two fencers have reached 20 wins for the foil squad, with junior Kennedy Lovelace at 20-14 and freshman Aryana Abtin at 20-12.

About the Opponents
> In addition to facing five fellow Top 10 teams, the Owls will fence four other teams that received votes for the CF360 Poll - Air Force, Stanford, UNC and UC San Diego.
> Notre Dame is atop the poll with a season record of 23-2 after going 7-0 last weekend at its own DeCicco Duals.
> Host Northwestern is an even more impressive 27-1 overall in 2018-19 after going 4-0 at the Philadelphia Invitational including a 14-13 win vs. #3 Columbia.
> #5 Ohio State is 10-8 so far this year, while #6 Princeton is just 5-4 after two dual meets.
