Men’s Basketball Names Captains for 2019-20 Season

10.16.19 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University Men's Basketball head coach Aaron McKie has selected senior Quinton Rose and juniors Nate Pierre-Louis and J.P. Moorman II as the captains for the 2019-20 season, his first as the program's head coach.

"We are going to have three captains this year, Quinton Rose, Nate Pierre-Louis, and J.P. Moorman II.  The selection process was easy as those guys earned it throughout the summer," said McKie, who is the first Temple alum to serve as the program's head coach since Hall of Famer Harry Litwack (1952-73). "Q is our senior leader.  He is mature and has come a long way and I feel like this is the next step in his progression. I am going to rely on him to not only lead us on the floor, but in the locker room.

Nate's work rate is incredible.  I have been around sports all my life and I have not really seen many guys work as hard as him.  Lastly, J.P. did a really good job in representing us off the floor throughout the summer.   He is a glue guy and really brings the guys together."

A 6-8 guard, Rose, who scored in double figures in 30 games, has amassed 1,343 points in just three seasons to rank 33rd all-time in program history. The 2019 second team all-AAC honoree ranked ninth in the conference in scoring with 16.5 points per game and third with 2.2 steals per game. He also became the first Temple player to record 70 or more steals in a season (71) since Mardy Collins (89, 2005-06).

A 6-4 guard, Pierre-Louis ranked fifth in the AAC with 1.6 steals per game, 16th with 13.3 points per game and 19th with 5.7 rebounds per game.  The 2019 AAC and Big 5 Most Improved Player has scored 641 points in his first two seasons and is on pace to reach the 1000-point plateau this year.

A 6-7 forward, Moorman started the last nine games for Temple, recording two of his five double-figure scoring games in the stretch.  He posted a season-high 20 points against Cincinnati while his 41 percent shooting from three-point range (34-83) led the Owls.

Temple opens its 2019-20 season on November 5 at the Liacouras Center against Drexel (7 pm).
