Explosive Second Half Lifts Women’s Soccer to Senior Day Victory

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University women's soccer team (5-9-4, 2-5-1 AAC) picked up a dominant Senior Day victory on Sunday afternoon, downing Delaware State (0-17), 4-0. The season-high scoring output for the Owls was backed by braces from both Madison Bee and Hailey Gutowski to propel the Owls to their fifth win of the season.

How it Happened
> The Owls got off to a quick start against the Hornets, finding the back of the net through extremely slick playing conditions just seven minutes into game action. Bee scored netted her first-ever goal in Cherry and White to put the Owls on the board early.
> After 30 minutes of slipping and sliding with the Owls controlling most of the possession, Temple got a breakaway to nearly go up by two. In the 35th minute, Gutowski split two defenders and threaded a perfectly placed through ball to freshman Gianna Dragoni. Dragoni drove a shot towards goal from inside the goal box, but her shot skated just right of the post to keep the score notched at 1-0.
> Three minutes later, the Owls nearly scored again when sophomore Gabriela Johnson sent a long ball to Marissa DiGenova. The junior charged onto the play and got behind the Delaware State back line, sending a shot on frame but got denied by the Hornet keeper.
> Outshooting the Hornets 10-3, the Owls entered the locker room with a 1-0 lead over their non-conference opponent. Temple continued to keep the offensive heat on high until the halftime whistle, nearly finding the back of the net in the final minute of the half when Gutowski fed another great ball to DiGenova but was denied by the Delaware State keeper.
> The offensive efforts by the Owls paid off with a massive breakthrough in the 75th minute. Gutowski netted two goals in the span of 73 seconds to give Temple a commanding 3-0 advantage.
> The Cherry and White kept the pressure on the Hornets and capitalized again in the 87th minute. Bee completed her first collegiate brace when she collected a deflection and knocked the ball past the Delaware State keeper.

> Bee recorded her first collegiate goal in the opening minutes against Delaware State this afternoon. She added another late goal with three minutes remaining in regulation to complete her brace.
> Gutowski's two-goal performance against the Hornets is her second of the season. The sophomore also recorded a brace against Houston on Oct. 13.
> The Owls' four-score offensive effort is the most goals the squad has netted in a contest this season. Temple's previous high was three goals in a win over UMBC on Aug. 29.
> The Cherry and White improved upon their undefeated record against the Hornets, as they move to 9-0 in the all-time series.

"To be able to send our seniors off with a win in their final home match at the TSC is priceless.
